Fixed the brake squeaking

Im sure most of you know this, but Im 17 just started taking autotech and im learning as I go, well story goes my breaks were squeaking real bad, thought I was gonna need new pads, but I tried the go in reverse slam on your breaks a couple times, and whalaa no more squeking, just a tip for any of you other car illiterite people like me out there, by the way this kid at my school just got altezzas and rims on his max and he thought he was the ****, then we raced and I smoked him(auto vs. manual) anyways thanks for all the help you guys have given me, just trying to give back a little.

i wouldn't be surprised if it actually DOES work. after we'd change brakes, my dad would drive the car to like 30mph and come to a screeching halt and repeat a few times. he said it was to break in the pads. i don't see why reverse wouldn't do the same.

how sad...person come on giving good info and gets slammed.
yes, it does work. i know several mechanics who do this (only takes a few minutes) and charge Diagnostic fees. I've done it once and it cured my problem. I've recommended it to others and many times, it works.

so it doesn't matter if it's reverse or forward, or does reverse work better

not sure if either is better. why not try one then the other if it doesn't work. just be careful when going backwards.

First off I didn't learn this in autotech, rather from my uncle(not a credible source I know, but hes always done his own brakes). The reason is with metallic pads the metal will "roll up" like tiny ball bearing and chill out on the pads and cause the grinding noise, going in reverse and hitting the brakes will dislodge these little ballbearings. And Im not saying go crazy and scream down the road in reverse and slam on the brakes like you just got cut off, Im saying back up normally and instead of easing on the brakes hit them kinda hard, once or twice.

I just top out reverse at 15mph, brace myself (put your head on the headrest!) and jam the brakes. I dunno if locking the wheels is good for the tires...On my volvo w/sorry brakes, I skid a few feet and the squeel was gone.
I'm thinking this works for several reasons. 1 is what Corion said. 2 is that it moves the shims ever so slightly. 3 is it corrects brake pad toe (like what happens after you break in your pads). An example of the 3rd reason is bicycle brakes and the angle you toe the brakes to stop the squeeling.

As soon as I get my car insured, I'll be trying this cuz my brakes squeek...but so do a lotta other Nissans.

Don't forget to check the group deal forum. Cattman's giving a special price on Gran Turismo brake kit/upgrade.
