problem with cutting front springs

On my '96 max
I have Eibach pro kit springs mounted on Tokiko's
here's the problem:
I cut the front springs a half coil before installing and here's what happened:
After a few months driving, I started to noticed a knocking sound coming from the front suspension. Found out it was the boots on the universal joints on the front axle that had broken down, due to the stress of the increased angle of the suspension due to lowering. I will have to replace the joints or replace the entire axle. Now I need to replace my springs with new un-cut ones to gain a higher ride height so that this problem will not happen again. Has anyone else had a similiar experience? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks

Are you sure it was the low ride height that killed your boots? They may have just rotted from old age and mileage.

Do not waste your time and money with the following popular options:

A) Replacing the boots. This saves you money on parts, but there is about 10 times as much labor to do just the boots than to just get a new axle. Plus, if you dont know how long your boots have been broken, you dont know how torn up your existing CV joints may be. They could die not long after you get new boots.

B) Getting a re-manufactured axle. Remanufactured axles use refurbished joints. This process grinds down the hardening on the surfaces inside the joint. Reman axles never last as long as the OEM axles did.

Your best bet is to contact www.raxles.com and get an axle with brand new joints. This only costs a little bit more than a reman axles, but they will last at least as long as OEM. They use precision fit boots and Amsoil synthetic grease.

Don't pay someone to put in your nex axle. It's not hard to do at all. Get a Haynes manual and go for it.

I have the same problem after I switched to Intrax from H&R's.

I have the same exact set-up as you, toks and eibach's with a full coil cut off the front and have had it that way for now +80K miles with no boot/axle wear. AS a matter of a fact, no problems at all. I suggest investigating other reasons why they prematurely wore.
