I don't know about your town, but there are TONS of 5th gen in my city w/ not so attractive people driving all stock SE's. Unless I mod the heck out of a 5th gen, then I'll just be one of "them". So, as much as I would like a new car, I rather stick with my 4th Gen, gives more character.... plus I just invested $205 in an Injen today.

Yesterday I test drove a 2k3 Majestic Blue, 6spd, black leather, THAT is an upgrade
I don't think 2k1's had HID's, the seats are nicer in 2k2+, theres more time on the 5th gen body so little quirks tend to get worked out by then, etc. Wait for that perfect 2k2

i suppose you guys are right... this was a spur of the moment kinda thing. its just that my car is starting to show some signs of age... and i get bored with things easily... so i've just had my eye out for something new. but i think i'm going to take everyone's advice and hold off for a 2k2 or 2k3... maybe their value will go down when the 2k4's come out like the 4gens did when the 5th gens came out. anyway, thanks.

I think we'll just have to wait on the new maxima to see what Nissan comes up with.
Well...to those non-attractive 5th-gen drivers defense, I don't exactly see a lot of "attractive" people that have deflectors on their body windows either :P Seriously though, I'd rather concentrate on a car's performance, reliability, and style rather than what other people are driving. If you really like the 2K1 for some reason over your 4th gen, go for it. Personally...5th-gen styling is pretty lame to me, especially pre-2K2 front end.

aren't the 2k4's supposed to have a totally different platform... i heard it was supposed to be along the same lines as the Q cars... v8 and rwd... maybe i'm mistaken, but i could have sworn i read that somewhere... i see if i can find what i'm talking about while at work.

Stick to your 97 the 00 or 01 definately isnot an upgrade, similiar performance and in my eyes the look inst as good especially if you have a 97-99 SE. I had an 01 now an 02 and to this day I still get more compliments on my 97 than my 02, I like my 97 SE's look and love my 02's power 97 isnt bad in this area as well.
