performance vs. noise question ... (y-pipe)
Alright guys
I did some searching about y-pipes and learned that some brands (cattman) are known to have problems w/ the flex section and the "bees-in-a-can" noise can be heard... considering you have a "good" y-pipe w/ no problems and is installed, how much louder does the car get when cruisin in low RPMs and idling?
I want the y-pipe real bad for the HP gains but at the same time save the quietness of my car. Oh well that'd be askin for too much then lol. I heard that Stillen actually warns buyers about the y-pipe resonating against the interior cabin and that turned me off from buying it. I love the way i can sit in my car... i'm at a stoplight... and w/o the music on, i can't feel the car shaking and not a sound. I have a Trust catback and cone filter so i don't notice the sound they make until i'm really pushing the car.
So if i were to get the y-pipe, what extras can i do to try to keep it quiet?? I was thinkin about gettin that dynomat stuff to help keep the sound out... speakin of which i was planning to line that in my doors and anywhere else i can think of to block all the outside road noise out. Anyone do this yet?
Thanks in advance for any input.

I had the cattman ypipe that had fitment problems and flex possible failrue. Cattman has since re-designed the pipes. I will be receiving one shortly, but according to cattman all the problems that once existed are gone b/c the manufacturing company was switched. This is a very nice ypipe as far as material quality goes. It had no bees in the can sound, but didnt fit right. I can let you know in a few days if the new one is better. PM if you want in a week.

I'm just curious to know generally how y-pipes affect the sound of your car, mainly when you're sittin inside, and if there's any way to block out as much of it as you can. Personally, I think a car that's loud in low RPM is pretty ghetto... it should only scream when your pushin it

I am interested in this answer also...... I definitely do NOT want a loud car, but I do want some HP gains. A little bit louder is fine, but I would much rather have the noise be outside of the car rather than inside of the car. Still though, I wouldn't want that much of a sound increase.

Warpspeed Ypipe/GreddySP/RTCatCAI
it was loud as Sh**...at WOT, earbleeding was reported as far as the next county. I put on a resonator right after the cat to the Bpipe. and the drone went bye bye. The Deep Tone increased/Heavy Deep tone...deep and throaty like a V8...no more weed wacker. It has more of a Throaty/Thrushing sound like a mustang.
You will feel the Ypipe burst. it is your destiny.
