After INtake INstall? SMell?

I recently installed a pop charger on my 97 Se. I took out the old airbox and attached the MAF adapter aling with the intake. I have a couple questions however.

1) There is a sensor on the lower bottom part of the air scoop coming from the front. What do I do with that sensor? It is kinda located directly under the MAF.

2) There is a funny kinda burning like smell coming from underneath the hood. ANy ideas?

3) The K and N filter has a hole at the top, SHould I plug it?

4) Is there anything else I need to do if the intake is on?

Thanks in advance,

- Mike

That hole is for the sensor.

bump Anyone know anything about the smell? Just took my car for a ride after installing my new short ram with an Apexi Power Filter. I read that some people think it's the cat, but I never noticed it until after pulling the factory air box and installing my new intake.

Kind of like something is burning, but a bit sulphury. Only happened today when I was WOT. Guessing maybe the cat may not be processing the fumes quick enough with the higher air flow? Not sure. Reading through other posts I couldn't find a solid answer, or fix. Getting ready to install a new catback with a test pipe in place of the cat. If this smell is what I think it is, I need to rethink my plans for the exhaust.

Don't you also get that smell when you are running rich? Maybe you should put that sensor thingy in the hole on your intake to see if it does anything.

But I don't think that sensor which is a temp sensor can affect air/fuel THAT much, can it?

EDIT: Whoops I answered the question of the OP which was back in 2002.

How I roll, old school I guess. All about bringing the grunge scene back from the 90's, shame I can't find threads to bump from 1994 . But this is the first thread that posts in google when I searched. Maybe someone else could benefit from the info in the future. I read others, but with no real answer or fix... just theory and, "yeah, me too!" But, I'm just a noob to the forum, so what do I know

To clarify, MAF is hooked up, using helmholtz res., no codes (I'm assuming I'd get a code for to lean or rich). I also pedal danced my way to a reset ECU just in case.

If I'm overloading the cat and getting this smell, I'm just going to leave off the test pipe when I install my exhaust. Maybe I'll just do a GAB since my box is off, didn't have the issue before the ghetto SRI. Thanks for the info!

I don't know, mine's pretty bad. Wife has the car or I'd take a pic. Haven't received my tubing yet so it's just the filter attached to the MAF tube. Minus the air box it's all the factory stuff.

Anyway, time to let this thread die again I guess.
