grease wheel bearings?
grease wheel bearings?
Hello all. I am going to be putting on new rotors, pads, SS lines, and new fluid in the upcoming weeks. I was telling a friend at work about it. He told me I should repack my wheel bearings with grease since I have higher mileage (I'm at 84K). He said to check if they're good or not. What are your thoughts on this? What is the average life of our wheel bearings? And what maintenance should be done on them? Thanks in advance.

The bearings on 4th gen are sealed and do not have to be repacked. I would spin them when I had wheel off ground to see if they are getting noisey. Also try lifting tire bottom up and top down to check for play. I have never replaced any wheel bearings on 15 years of Max ownership with 4 Maxes. When I replaced my rotors and pads I found both the front caliper pins on each side quite worn and replaced them. Cost $23.00 for all 4 at Advance Auto. Pep Boys wanted $29.00 for each side. Rear caliper pins were fine. Used high temp synthetic grease on all caliper pins and slides. Used anti squeal compound on the back of all shims. Zero noise, brakes still breaking in. There is a tool called caliper piston removal tool that you can use to turn piston clock wise while you push piston in. Makes life a whole lot easier. I bought mine for $9.00, afterwords some of the members posted that you can borrow brake tools from parts places. I think Autozone was mentioned. Are you going to paint your calipers? It is the perfect time!

I have already painted my calipers glossy black. My car is the deep maroon (rosewood). They blend well.
Thanks
