wining noise and burning smell

after parked the car for like 2 hr while going to the doctor, when I got out and started the car, it has this wining noise coming from the right side (from inside the car). When i got out to see what's wrong, I smell this burning smell, not a lot. The noise got louder for a moment when I turn the steerin wheel. The car ran fine so I got to the dealer, but they didn't know what's wrong so I had to leave it there for them to check it tomorrow.

Anyone know the problem? I can just wait for tomorrow but it's....my MAX
Thanks

ps. I just got my FRANKENCAR intake today and can't try it out (more )

Like...squealing? The belts are on the right side...and they can cause squealing if not tight enough...not sure about the burning smell, I suppose it could be something to do with the belts. I had mine changed recently and it's giving me a squealing noise that I need to get fixed by tightening the belt. If it's not the belt I'm not sure what's up with it.

thanks for replying, I don't think it's the belt, cuz I haven't do the 60k tune up yet so haven't change the belt. It's not squealing, it's more of a humming sound.

Could be your heater fan. Try switching it off and see if the noise goes away. It's on the right side.

Was your alternator part of the recall? The old alternators have been known to catch on fire.

yeah, I told the guy to replace the alternator while at it. I hope that was the problem so I don't have to pay anything.

Could be a line to your power steering came loose, and sprayed onto your exhaust, causing a whining sound when you turn the steering wheel and a burning smell due to the power steering fluid burning on your exhaust...check your power steering fluid level.

Sounds like I had the same thing. Check the alternator. Also the a/c idler pulley. Nissan checked mine out and said the alternator was fine, but the idler pulley was bad. So I've ordered a new pulley and waiting for it to come from tustin nissan. The dealer wanted $65 and I got it from tustin for $41. Does the noise change with the rpms?

Nissan just called me and said they couldn't find nothing wront with the car. Everythign look fine to them.

I'll check the fluid and exhault thing, but the fluid level is right, just little below the max line.

And the alternator is being replaced by Nissan right now for the recall. For the idler pulley, I don't know Nissan must have checked it already but they said nothing wrong that they could find.

And yea, the noise change with the rpm, a bit louder as i rev the engine.

Anyone know this please help cuz even Nissan can't find it.

See how it is after you pick it up with the new alternator.

It's the alternator. I just had the same problem with mine. It started whinning and smelling like something was burning (high friction). It turned out to be the alternator (under recall). Nissan replaced it free of charge.
