I just replaced the thermostat on my 95 gxe and it fixed my heat problem but the 1-3 fan speed doesn't work. $ works fine but 1-3 doesn't. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated

There is a resistor assembly mounted on the air duct close to the blower
motor. That part has failed. It is used to control fan speeds 1, 2, and
3. Speed 4 is the maximum blower motor speed, so no resistors are
involved. Replacing the resistor assembly is something the home mechanic
can do. The only tool needed is a Phillips head screwdriver.
The Haynes manual has a good photo of this part on page 3-8.

Dan Martin is correct in that it's the blower motor resistor. I've found that most Japanese cars have their low fan speed settings go south sometime or another.

As for the repair...yes you can do it yourself, but it will involve removing the glove box and removing the blower motor to get to the resistor (that could take a while). It might be easier to just take it to a mechanic who specializes in Nissans and have the guy spend 30 minutes and fix it for you for $30-40.

I respectfully disagree. I removed the blower resistor on my car just to see how difficult it was. Fast and easy. No need to touch the glovebox or the blower motor. Five minutes, start to finish.
