IDEAL mileage from a full tank of gas?
#42
I drive about 50% highway, 20% city and 30% open single lane roads.
I've only had the Max 2.5 weeks, so I'm still in the lead foot stage and I've filled up 3 times - about 12-13 gals each time. I've been anywhere from 280 to 330 miles at the time I've filled up.

Typical all-around driving, I get about 380-400 miles per tank. There have been a few times where I've gotten over 450 miles taking long freeway trips, and that all time high of 492 miles. I don't have any engine mods...don't have many mods of any kind, for that matter !

I got 32mpg for the first time this last fillup. It was mostly highway driving cruise control no speeding. I have never gotten that much mileage ever. Only thing I did different was put on a popcharger and just changed to 5w30 amsoil. I have a wsp y-pipe. I wonder if the warpspeed b-pipe would really be able to add 2mpg(on their website) onto my 32 mpg.

holy ****.. i get 350 from full to empty. i take it that's good. I used that Zmax stuff it really works!

oh and i just finished a good week ago and was at 290 miles with the bar between the last line at the bottom. The warning light didn't come on yet so i say i'm past 300 miles on a full tank. wouldn't get up to 350 though, maybe 320 if i'm lucky
#49
Damn you guys have heavy right foots/feet. I get 400+ easy without gas light coming on in mixed city/hwy driving. Can usually get up to 450 miles before gas light comes on. Once in bandcamp....I got 500+ miles on my tank from ALL hwy driving.

gas gauges are not ment to be accurate!
Hi,
I worked in the automotive sector for quite some time and can tell you that the gas gauges are deliberately made to be misleading. This is done by the manufacturer to avoid consumers from complaining about the mileage of their new cars. So the gauge needle will stay in the full section far longer than anywhere else on the dial. This makes the consumer believe that their new car is very easy on the gas, and hence minimal complaints. This started in the 1960s and has been carried over. Even luxury models do this. Its best to track the mileage using methods described earlier, by watching the odometer and the amount of fuel used.
I hope this helps.

before my frankencar intake...
...I used to see about 300 miles per tank.
...I've had the Frankencar now for two weeks, and I'm getting about 230 miles per tank
I don't think I'm such a bad lead foot...maybe I am.
I have a two and a half hour drive next week, and this'll let me know.
anyhow...for the last 6 months or so, I have always been writing down
much gas I put in, and the mileage. It's a great indicator as to how
your car is driving!!!

I think on average driving conditions 350 Miles is pretty good for about 16.5 gallons of fuel.
My best is 400 all highway miles towing a 3-seater SeaDoo on about 17 gallons of fuel. Going from CT to FL. That's like 23.5 MPG.
At that time I was beggining to think that my Fuel Gauge was bad, because towing the same SeaDoo with a 1996 Talon TSi AWD ran me about 180 miles on 13 gallons of fuel.

I got great mileage until just recently. I got 25 to 27 mpg with a semi lead foot and turbo. But mostly highway miles. I changed my KS recently (got it off my other engine) wonder if it's gone bad again?

IIRC, when Cheston and Billy were here at UCLA, under 20mpg was pretty common in Los Angeles traffic. From what I see, ~16mpg could be pretty typical.
Even a few miles on the freeway (when it's not rush hour!) helps though, and I know 28mpg sustained on open road at constant speed is easy to do. That's almost 500 miles a tank.
Back in "normal" driving though, 300 miles a tank would probably have kept us happy...

I normally get around 270 miles on 11 gallons with mixed driving... which comes out to around 24.5 mpg. If our tanks hold 18.5 gallons, that would be a range of 453 miles.
With steady highway driving, my car will get around 28 mpg. This would give a range of 518 miles before running completely out.
When the 'walk light' comes on, you've got FAR LESS than five gallons left in the tank.... You'd better be finding a gas station PRONTO!
Good Luck!

352 miles per tank 100% in town driving. 540 miles per tank 100% interstate driving, a honest 30 mpg.
#59
Agreed
Absolutely! Driving in NYC is just crazy, totally kills gas mileage. Our highways are nothing but big parking lots. Brooklyn and Queens driving, I get about 210-250 miles per tank.

then in regular city driving, i get 250 +/-
It has been the same case with my 98 auto as well..
I can only draw one conclusion,
The "city" driving in NYC is far worse than city driving in most of the country except for a few large cities like NYC but other than that, you can't call our "city" driving the same as the "city" driving in some suburban town. Our highway driving is probably worse than their city driving and has more traffic and requires more stop and go driving...
From who I've talked to locally, everyone gets similar milage.. so i wouldn't worry about it being something wrong with the car..

I normally get 380-400miles on 15.5-16 gallons in 40/60 city/highway driving normally driving. I rarely go WOT. Most of the times I average 16-28 mpg.
BTW. I live and drive in Wash D.C. areas.

Paonessa definitely does. We got into the whole tornado debate on the Maximadriver.com forums about a week or two ago. They stand by that thing as well as do others on that forum. I have yet to see definitive and undeniable evidence though. Just the way they advertize and the examples they use (the two bottles attached at the neck) send up red flags for me. Reminds me of Slick 50.

I get close to 670km on a tank, and it's not all Highway driving!

Riot^ : P was referring to Miles not Kilometers. Do the conversion and you'll get numbers you're more familiar with.

4. go to gas station again
5. fill it up to the very top again.. but this time watch the pump and see how many gallons it just took.

I get 300-ish per tank but a good deal of that is city driving.
Miles per tank is in direct correlation to how many times a driver sits in the McDonald's drive-thru within the timeframe, and therefore is not reliable.

I have NEVER EVER seen anything close to 600...
How is this possible? What's wrong with my car?
Come to think about it, even at 25mpg, the most you could get
would be about 400 miles or 640kms (with 16 gallons)...

Anyway, I have gotten from 20 to almost 22 gallons per mile w/ my five speed. I drive with WOT at least once every drive too. There's a traffic light on my way to the interstate where I always get in the middle lane so I can blast off past whoever is in the left lane (the lane that turns to the on-ramp). I drove about 150 miles on a short trip during one of my mileage monitorings and that raised my mileage to about 24 mpg. I do like 80 or 90 mph on the highway though. So I consider that to be good.

Usually after a long trip, like from LA to San Jose, I get 450 miles to the tank. Of those 450 miles, less than 400 is the actual trip. The rest is from driving around after I've arrived.

i have a 96 gxe auto...i drive from sumter sc to norfolk va and i avg about 80-85mph and and when i get to my destination i'll have 1/4 tank left with about 325 on the odometer. i filled up yesterday i had 425 on that tank of gas. i just recently changed my o2 sensor before that i was avg 365mph...

i just did a test of gas mileage and finally see how hard driving will put a strain on gas mileage. Here's how the scenario went.
First week, i basically drove hard all week changing gears at 4.5 to 6 rpm depending on where i was (highway and what not)
at the end of that week with a little gas left (light didn't come on but i was close to it) i was only at 230 miles
then the next week i drive real light switching gears at a maximum of 3 rpm except for when i met up with skeelo and he tested my new stillen filter out and a few occassional races, but 80% of the time driving real light and conservative, i made it at the same spot of the gas tank with 289 miles. If i drove this way the whole time, i would have easily gotten atleast 325 miles off a full tank. So there really isn't anything wrong with my car i guess, just real sensitive to hard driving.
Also, am i the only one that experiences HUGE losses of gas when driving hard? when skeelo was pushing my car to the limit, i was losing 1/8 tanks by the street...WTF is up wit that...

I get about 30 mpg on the highway, but surprisingly, I get about 26 or so in the city. The six in this car is so powerful and torquey that I had hardly have to use more than partial throttle to get away from a redlight. My old Civic hatchback, even with an engine swap and bunch of mods, had to be ran like you stole it and thus I would sometimes only get 23 or less mpg in the city. I guess there is no subsitute for cubic inches.

Just kiddin. But for real, though, I still don't understand how people can be saying what they get off a "full tank of gas." If you were to truly try to figure that out, you would have to drive until you ran out of gas to know that you had used the full tank, all the gas that was in the tank. So are you guys just taking the mileage calculation you get and then multiplying by 18.5 gallons (the tank capacity)?

by the time i'd say: damn i need some gas, i've driven 400+ miles on the trip meter. if i went absolutely full to no more gas i'd say it's around 450-maybe even 500

i have a 97 SE 5sp with 159000 miles on it. i drive 120 miles everyday commuting to school and back. i use exxon 93 octane and i get about average 400 miles when the gas light comes on. my driving is 95% highway with average speed of 80. driving passive, the highest i got was 430 miles and driving aggresive, lowest i got was 320 miles. so i do about 25 mpg since i put about 16 gallons to fill up. 400/16 is 25 right?
