Hey Daniel seeing as how you know everything there is to know about the Maxima, I have a quick one for ya. I need to replace my passenger side mirror on my 97 Max. I don't really want to pay the dealership $60 to do it. I was wondering if all there is to installation is taking that panel off of the inside door and unscrewing the old one and disconnecting the wiring harness, and then doing the reverse process for the new one? Or is there more to it then that?? Thanks for your help!!

I've never had the need to replace an outside mirror, so I looked in the manual. You've got the right idea. Here's what the factory service manual says.

1) Remove door trim.

2) Remove inner cover front corner of door.

3) Disconnect door mirror harness connector.

4) Remove door mirror harness clips.

5) Remove bolts securing door mirror assembly.

6) Remove the mirror glass. Do not insert screwdriver too far.

I don't understand step 6. It seems that after step 5 the mirror assembly falls free of the door. The Haynes book lists essentially the same steps but omits step 6.

Do you have to replace the entire assembly, or just a broken mirror glass? If only the glass, I think you can just pop it out with a screwdriver. Maybe that's what step 6 was intended to convey.

thanks for the help

It sounds like I might be able to do it myself! Yeah unfortunately I have to replace the whole thing, I was backing out of my driveway and a it got yanked forward. Broke the mirror, and the plastic "shroud". Thanks again for the help. I'm going to look into getting one of those manuals tomorrow!
