oh man this isnt looking good.. the car wont jump start. I have to get it towed away from my house. All i can think now is alternator... and a slight chance with the starter. Tell me what you guys think.

Hmm..if the car won't start with a jump, then I would think Starter is dead.

I had the same problem a few months ago. In my case it was the starter, which was replaced. So your best bet is the starter because my car wouldn't jump either.

buy a new starter for 80 bucks and install it ureself (pretty easy install... only work pretty much required is taking the intake off). That way u won't pay for shipping and garage costs.

The fact that you can't jump the car points to the starter being the problem. You obviously have electrical power if you're hearing whirring noises. It is not the alternator.

Sometimes jumping the starter directly will help get it going even when regular jump starting wont. It is worth a shot. But if this works then it should still be replaced.

lol, I had a similar problem and have learned from a mistake. If it grinds and clicks, that is battery because the sound is the starter trying to turn over and doesn't have enough juice to turn. Why it didn't work with the jump I have no idea. If you stick the key in and all you hear is a single click and all your accessories still work, then THAT is the starter.

The weeks that my starter spent slowly but surely dying created a lot of hell with CEL's and all. Now it runs like a champ and starts with such a beautiful sound . If you ever NEED to replace the starter, it's an hour long process that really ain't that hard.
