Anybody race a Celica GT-S on the Hwy. ?

The other night coming home from a 12 hour day at 4:00 in the morning I see and hear 2 cars racing a down the Hwy and they pass me going around 120-130 I beleive. Then I speed up just a bit to see some action and its a old 5G Civic Hatch like the one I just sold all fixed up and a newer Celica I believe a GTS.I see them take off again and then I punched it to see if I could play.I catch up as they start to slow down and line up with them.About 25-35 mph.We all punch it and I got the jump on them and then the Civic starts to pull on me a little and then the celica slowly starts to scoot up next to the civic and then both cars just stayed right at my rear door up to 115 mph and I shut down and turned the ol flashers on.I didnt think I would have them.Maybe it wasnt a GT-S or are they crappy on the Hwy.?

Thanks

How can a civic keep up with a maxima on the highway, it just doesn't have the power.

Your not serious are you?

Have you ever driven Hybrid? There not exactly slow.If that was a GT-S the civic had to of had either FI which I doubt or a swap.I just didnt think the my Auto. max would keep up but I beat them pretty bad.

You trying to tell me a hybrid civic is fast? Civics, all of them are slow pos on the highway unless they do swaps or turbo upgrades.

I doubt it but if it did Im sure it was on the stock SOHC motor.

I was just excited becasue I finally got to race someone with my new intake and I won.

If you couldn't leave a stock civic on the highway. I think that there is a problem with your car or the way you drive.

Im sorry to be an *** to all of you guys, but you are way to skeptical about civics. Even though they may be a 1.5-1.8L 4 banger, they do pack so power. My friend for example has a Civic EX with headers, intake, exhaust and a 3PSI turbo. He is SCCA qualified and with him and 3 other people in his car beat an NSX. I swear to God... Ive seen the video. Now think of it, an NSX is faster than a Maxima so yeah. He is also an awesome tuner with over 8 years of experience. Go ahead and bash on Civics I don't care, but I do respect them. Maybe not the snobby little rich kids whose dads buy everything for them, and they still dont know what theyre doing and just ub3r rice their cars.
If you honestly dont belive me about this, im sure he'd wanna put money on a race. If you live in the 4-corners area, or somewhere near Abq, NM and are interested PM me and Im sure I can hook you up.
BTW, he has a race with a Firehawk on Tuesday. Ill let you know the outcome.

I true I have seen some civics doing some low 1/4 mile times. But is you get a civic to do 12's there is not really much of the car but a motor on wheels. I am pretty sure I can make a motor on wheels and make it look better. Not that I am hating on civics but it takes alot of work to make it fast. My cusin has a 2000 SI with headers, catback, cam gears, and he still can't come close to my 97 SE 5spd

So you think a hybrid civic is slow, and civics aren't fast unless that have a swap? Are you aware of what a hybrid is? Do all of you think the same of Integras?

I believe Hybrid means when you drop a motor from another vehicle into a civic. Like a prelude motor into it etc.. I raced a GT spyder on the highway but I was cheating geez some I am boosted. It was not fair but he wanted to play. Not all civics are slow. A civic pushing over 12 PSI will leave a stock Maxima on the highway. With Vortech superchargers I seen them run 14.2 on the quarter.

Congrats on the kill!

Regardless, the man won. How did that intake sound roaring past them? And think about it he probably got on the gas late that is why the cars were creeping up, hmmm. Again, CONGRATS!

I have a 2001 Celica GT. The reason I went with the GT over the GTS is because it was a few thousand cheaper, and the GT-S was really not that much of an improvement. The high-end speed on the Celicas really is not that bad, but the low-end is TERRIBLE. Stock for Stock, a celica will out handle a maxima any day of the week, but as far as speed it's not competition. That GT-S was modded!

yeah his quote makes no sense, hybrid civics are slow, unless they are swapped....

I don't think he knows what potential those cars have, b16/18 swaps, all motor will run 13's all day and will walk most maximas on this board.

Couple that with a turbo, tune it, and you have a track monster. Granted there are a lot of rice boys who act like they have a skyline GTR, but that car has lots of potential, and is cheap.

ahh... that's the first time i've heard people talk about the true hybrid electric/gas on this board as far as racing goes lol.... I wonder what you'd use for more power, strap a generator on the back .... lightning pole?

The last civic I raced was running 15 flats. He had a B16 swap.

All that money for an engine swap, and he's only running 15's??!!??

That's money well wasted!

thats weird.... back to the topic though, I have several friends with GTS' all 2k's with the 2k1 ecu swap(gets rid of rev limiter)... adn they run mid to high 14's all day. they have intake, exhaust, typical bolt ons.

alright, slightly off topic, but the other day i was coming home from the beach with a full car, and a full(of people) civ hatchback comes up beside me at about 45 and toys with me a bit. He punches it and just as he passes me i WOT as well. So anyways i didnt catch him until about 75. By this time i had enough power to dust him except fot the little ricer b*tch cut me off almost causing me to hit him. Anyways, it just totally blew my mind that a full civic could keep up at any speed. Anyone know why?

Well I dont know where most of you guys are from, but I live in Buffalo, NY and we really dont have a lot of people who mod cars here, occasionally I'll see a riced out import, but usually its domestics that people are driving (mustangs, corvettes, camaros... the big boys as I call them) so you talk about all these people with engine swaps and turbos and all this, so where we live is def. going to play a factor in this stuff. I have a '95 auto max w/ hybrid intake and stillen exhaust (hopefully a y soon) and I can go out on a night and find some people to race and not have to worry about if they are gonna smoke me cause they might have a engine swap or whatnot. most of the cars here, newer ones are all show and no go.(except for the all the rich people with their SL55's and M3's who I just dont even mess with, unless i want to see them go fast ) everyone has a big *** rice wing and 6" muffler on their civic but thats it, on top of their 18"s weighing them down, or the new popular thing I"m seeing is these like 1.5" foot high steel wings on cars like a cutlass supreme and ford taurus- it looks like CRAP! so honestly I cant relate with you guys for the most part, for every 1,000 honda's I'll see on the road, maybe one of them will be worth time to race... dont make it sound like a life or death thing, cause there will always be someone out there faster than you and thats just my 2 cents on everything.

Intake sound was good.I cant wait to get some headers or Y-pipe and exhuast though.

The sound of a B18C motor with Short ram intake it beautiful though.

It was probaly a crummy design Im sure.A header with a good flow design will produce some good gains from looking at our rusty manifolds.

hybrid = LS Vtec...Meaning an LS integra block with a VTEC head. Isn't it funny that rice boys can easily do this, but somehow they spend their money on 18" rims, altezza lights, boeing spoiler, cut coils and a pearl paint job
