question for all 4th gen owners

i heard that 95 and 96 se 5 spds are the fastest production maximas up to 02-03 or something like that. is this fact or fiction? I am looking at the difference between 92 se 5spd, and 95/96 se 5spd. Pro's / Con's?

24 views and no answer?

the reason im asking is because im in btweeen staying with a 3rd gen and buying a 92 se 5 spd, or buying a 96 se 5spd. not sure what the hp difference is or things like that are... was just wondering what the extra money is getting me.

Supposedly, the 95 GXE five speed would be the fastest 4th gen, but the fastest stock 4th gen was a 97 I believe.

The 95-96 5-speed SE is supposedly faster than the 97-99's. I'm not real sure why, but that's the rumor. The GXE wasn't made in a 5spd. A search would find you lots of information on this topic.

GXE do come in 5 speed and 95-96 are the fastest because they have a less restrictive emissions system.

I know that they SHOULD be the fastest, but aren't most of the fastest 4th gens 97-99s?

This is probably because people invest more money into them then 95 or 96 since they have a few more year on them.

it is true that 95-96 has less weight due to less-restrictive emissions, but the margin of speed in the comparison is very small. if i were you i would go for a 4th gen, they are newer, look better IMO, and will have better resale value. and as for speed, it all in a good driver, dont worry about the years between 4th gens

go into the 1/4 and 1/8 mile racing forum and check out peoples times. the 4th gen 5 speeds will be faster but the VE's pack some power to them too. whichever you like better looks/options should be your choice, other than that they are both good and quick cars.
