what all-season tires to buy?

Hello All!

Just a quick survey for those who know...

What tires are the best for my 1997 Maxima SE
The qualities that I am looking for:
-- great grip, wet and dry.
-- quiet
-- long-lasting
-- snow traction (I LOVE CANADA!!! but, I hate the snow )
-- price is a factor (aren't there any buy 3 get 1 free sales?)

Please vote!!!

Thanks all!

I just got some v-rated michelin mxv4+ tires (215-55-16) about 4k ago and they are the best tires I've had on any car. Very very quiet, they hold well in the rain and are very sticky in hard corners and braking. They are supposed to last 40k miles and from other michelins I've had they will most likely go longer than that even. Just be sure to keep your wheels aligned and the proper tire pressure (32f/29r) and they should make you very happy.

Out of your choices I'd say without a doubt the RE950.

But do consider the Dunlop Sport A2 as well. Wet road grip is excellent along with a very smooth and quiet ride.

I have the 950's and have to say I am not impressed at all.
It's louder than I would like at highway speed, not great traction in rain at highway speeds...veridict is still out in the snow.
I was only doing downhill driving in the snow, and even that it was marginal.

personally, I don't like my MXV4+ tires...they squeak too easily...
I mean, I would turn going about 15mph and they would squeal...

This is definitely a tough question, because it's really really hard
to compare tires b/c they are expensive and you'll only change them
once every few years.

does anyone know of a rating web-site for tires?

Thanks all!

You always beat me to mentioning the Dunlops

I second the Dunlop Sport A2 notion, they are like 87$ at tirerack now!!! Their ratings are up there with and better than tires 40$ more expensive than them. Excellent tires. I wish they made them in 17s...

Another tire to consider is Sumitomo HTR+...

who the hell voted for the Kumho's? I have them, and they have zero traction in the snow...go for the RE950's

I have to say that is you have the money, go with the 950s. If you want to save some cash, get the A2s. As for the HTR+ (Sumitomo), I have them and like them, but had they not been so cheap ($300 installed w/ lifetime balance & roadhazard) I would have gone with the A2s. Every time I see A2s I wish that I had possessed the cash to afford them...

950's. Have had them for 30K miles and are not even half worn. Great in the dry and wet. Snow is decent enough but probably the weakest aspect of the tire. All around best tire I have ever used.

I would go with the Continental ContiExtremeContact. Great reviews on TireRack and I just ordered a set!
