18X8 vs 19X8.5?

So I am ready to buy my wheels, I know I am gonna buy the Mille Miglia evo5 for sure. The problem is that I don't know if I should go for 18X8 with 235/40/18 or 19X8.5 with 235/35/19. I just don't want to feel every single crack on the road. I would love to have bigger wheels so thats why I want 19's. What do you guys think?

If you're buying bigger wheels your going to feels cracks no matter what. The crappier your suspension is the worse you'll feel the cracks. If you don't want to feel the cracks then don't get bigger rims.

And why the mille miglia's? I mean I agree they are sweet but so many maximas have them.

Depends on which one by mille. I dont think that many people have my rims m1000+ 18x8. The only thing i would say about this brand is that they can be heavy and even more heavy with huge tires.

haven'tcomfortwell ya I know that if I get bigger wheel my car won't feel as good as it is, but I just have to sacrifice the for the great look of the wheels. I agree that lots of people have them but I seen them in AZ. Not many people here fix up their Maximas. So I wanna be one of the first ones that has them here in Arizona. but still undecided. I am looking for people that actually know how it feels, performance, etc.....

I agree that bigger wheels will make you feel cracks more. If speed is what your looking for than I'd go with 17" alloys. But if speed and handling doesn't mean much to you than.....heck....go with 20" Why not?

I have 17" rims and I feel all the cracks. Some are worse than others. Like I said before, you're going to feel the cracks anyway with bigger rims. How much you feel them will depend on your suspension.

I agree that many on this board have the Evos, but they are damn nice looking and you have to consider several things:

1. Do you like them? yes, if you're thinking about buying them.

2. Do you care if 50 other .org members have them? you shouldn't, because every day when you walk out to your car or someone sees your car they'll think "hot rims", not "hey there's 49 other people on maxima.org that have them"

they may be common on the .org, but I've never seen another car with them on the road.

The choice is obviously yours and yours alone but if you get 19's , get 245-35-19's instead of 235's. It may not seem alot of difference but due to the fact that the 245's are about an inch wider. In you doing that , you will still feel the cracks in the road but its a lot smother rid.
I had 235-35-19 Nitto 555's ride like schitt.
Got 245's in Yoko AVS sports and Goodyear Eagle F1's and both are superior tires to the Nitto's and a whole lot smother ride. Good luck

Actually 245s are only 1 centimeter wider than 235s, ie. about .4 inch wider, not 1 inch wider.

Also, the width of the tire is not what gives a smoother ride. It is the fact that the 245 is a taller tire than a 235 in the same aspect ratio.

For example, a 235-40-18 tire would be 25.4" tall whereas a 245-40-18 tire would be about 25.7" tall. The .3" difference may not seem like much, but it can make a noticeable difference.

That said, the best thing to do is to find a tire that provides good ride quality if that is what your priorty is. Certain lines of tires provide excellent ride quality even in a super low profile size.

I WAS TALKING ABOUT 19'S NOT 18'S AND 35 SERIES NOT 40. IF YOUR GOING TO PICK APART A REPLY TO A POST THEN BE ACCURATE. 235 OR 245 REFER TO THE WIDTH. THE FOLLOWING #'S 55-45-40-35 WHATEVER, IT IS THE SIDE WALL PROFILE, A % OF THE WIDTH OF THE TIRE. IN PUTTING THE LARGER SIZE ON IT WILL GIVE YOU A BETTER RIDE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE RIM WIDTH HAS NOT CHANGED, FORCING A LARGER TIRE ON A RIM THAT CAN HANDLE SMALLER(I.E. 215/225)WILL GIVE YOU A TALLER PROFILE AND MORE CUMFY RIDE WITHOUT PAYING OUT THE A$$ FOR 40 SERIES TIRES FOR 19'S. ONCE AGAIN , I'M TALKING ABOUT 19'S .

Hey man
I have 20's with H&R and Konis and my max rides very nice I think, but I switched from a suv. I have also decided to sell my 20's so if anyone is interested. Check out my webpage, I'm going to let these bad boys go for a great price and they have only been used for show.

I have 19 X 8.5's

I have some 19 X 8.5's Dazz Matiz wrapped with Nitto 555's in 235/35-19. The ride is pretty good. I have an Eibach 1.5" drop. You definately feel the difference on the road. My car feels more a part of the road. I live in the DC area so the roads are crappy. If you live in a like area I would go with a REAL 3 piece wheel that is still produced. In the last 1 1/2 years I have had to repair 6 wheels at a cost of $175 each because my wheel isn't produced anymore. Luckily I live close to the best wheel repair shop in the US. My acceleration has sufferd a bit (no speed freak here) but I still outrun your average Honda rice rockets and toyota's. If you're local I'm selling my set. I'm going with 19 X 9 front and 19 X 10 rear. Maybe 20". My buddy owns a shop so get the stuff at cost plus shipping.

I don't know what the road are like in your area, but here in DC, there are a lot of bad roads. However, the roads that I drive on the majority of the time are pretty smooth so I am going to buy 18" wheels. Kloogy is the only person I know that has the wheels you want in 19". Yes, the Evo 5 is a common wheel, but it's beautiful. Also, if you are still unsure of 18" or 19", remember that the design of the Evo 5 makes the wheel Look big.
Good luck

Before you yell at me for picking apart your post and complain about my inaccuracy, I suggest that you proofread your own posts and use correct grammar so there won't be any confusion in the future.

Please also re-read my response. It is 100% accurate. If you think I am wrong, please feel free to point out where I erred. You're attacking me for your own mistake. Makes no sense. Also, why do you care whether I am using 18" or 19" wheels and 35 vs. 40 series in my *EXAMPLE*. Do you not understand what an example is? Regardless, my example is still accurate whereas your inital post is not. A 245-35-19 is still NOT 1" wider than a 235-35-19. That is a fact. If you don't believe me, do the math. The conversion factor is 2.54 centimeters = 1 inch.

The only reason why I corrected you is because there is a TON of misinformation on these message boards and I am only trying to cut through all the B.S. so people can make informed decisions.

If you can't appreciate that... well, I really don't care.
