UDP wowes

I just had a UDP installed on my car and now my belts randomly sqweek at idle and starting off from idle. The tech that installed it when I asked him said it would stop when the belt worn in, but im not totally believing him. it seems like it is getting worse, but maybe just because it is getting pretty cold up here. Any ideas on how i could tighten it or stop this sqweek? I feel like a tool at a stop light when I start off or waiting in front of a dorm for a friend with my belt sqweeking every now and then.

Any thoughts would be helpful.
thanks - ryan

When I used to have the udp installed the first time I had it the belts were fine. Then it started to squeel after a good bit of driving. I guess the belts are now loose. I just retightened them and the noise went away. You probably gotta do the same..

1> you need to have a 14mm wrench to loosen the bolt on the center of the tension pully,2> you need a 14mm socket, extention and a ratchet to tighten the alternator and a/c comp belt tensioner adjustment bolt(turn clockwise).Hope this will help.

Do you know where the bolts listed below are? If not then look on the passenger side towards the front of the car. They are next to a fuse box about 6 inches to a foot behind the headlight.

New belts stretch. THis will happen with or without a UDP. Simply tighten the tension, and you will not hear squeals. The bolts are located on the passenger side, and the procedure is easier with a flexible extension.

What are your impressions of the effects of the UDP?

Realistically, do you see any gains? Any problems with loss of current to electrical devices? Is the UDP worth the money and install time, or is the money better spent elsewhere?

install time is minimal if you mechanically inclined

the benefits? you will see more if you have a 5spd.

us autoMagic guys/gals see 6000 rpm quicker..

have not had a single problem electrical wise.. i know a 5spd guy with one running a decent size stereo setup.. no loss in power

Thanks for the info on the electrical thumbs-up. I am mechanically inclined, but don't have a garage where I live now, and the high today is 32*...so I am not about to try this right now. I could prob do it, but am worried that I would get 1/2 way through and run into problems...I don't really see when I will have a weekend and a garage to try this.

At what RPM range will I start to see (or feel) benefits?

Those of you w/ autos- do you really feel a difference?

Looking into buying one as well, and am hoping there are some real gains for the autos...I know in 5spd, the think rev's quicker than a mad man on speed, but yet to see one in an auto....

Erica, Can I drive your car, pwetty plz?

1) it's not an rpm specific mod. it's across the board.
2) yes.

right now it sucks because of the tires; never get traction. but if you come to visit, you can try it out I guess.

No kidding! At 51,800 when I put the UDP on my car...it was like DANG...they left that crap on and I could have lost power steering or whatever...I hate Executive Nissan.

Tightening the belts is a PITA; to do it right you have to get under the car to loosen the power steering pump. Take it back to the mechanic and tell him to do it right; the belts get looser with time, not tighter. You shouldn't have to pay.

thanks for the input everybody. I'm happy with the UDP so far minus the noises. I think ill take it back to the dealer friday when i go home for dinner with my fam. They kept the extra belt from me that I gave them and I want to return it for the cash, cuz I don't have any... As far as pros and cons go, my heat has been working like a charm with the stereo blasting and the heated seats on full along with the rear defroster on with all my lights. The car is alot smoother in higher rpms and right around red line. It used to be I could feel that car start to shake a bit around 4-4.5k now its very fluid all the way to red line, not sure if it was the UDP or the tune up but either way its more fluid now and alot faster reving down from higher rpms. -) No complaints from me so far.

A nice tuneup always does wonders. Wait till you get into more mods and then see how this little 4dsc can feel.
