intermitent starting
i have a 96 gle with 62,000 miles and now that the cold is here i am having trouble starting the car without trying a few times and pushing down the gas..i brought the car to a mechanic and he checked all the censors which deal with temperatures...they all tested ok...he advised me to bring car to nissian and have them scan the computer...might be a computer trble..alternator and battery check ok...any ideas?
the dealership will charge me an arm and a leg for this
how much does the computer cost

I paid $1000 at least at the dealership for a new ECU last fall. Definitely dont get one there. Stupid ME
Anyway I'll bet its not your computer anyway, so forget that route. Make sure you are all up to dat maintenance wise. Or live with it.
Every winter my car needs a very light touch on the gas to start. I let it drive me crazy for the longest time, replaced ALOT of stuffff.....In the warmer months it starts on a dime so I just live with it for the cold months.

Cold starts giving you a hard time.....
1) Clean your Throttle Body www.motorvate.ca
2) Check fast idle plunger for proper operation
3) Adjust fast idle cam if necessary
4) Change your Engine Coolant Temp Sensor
Refer to the Haynes shop manual for the how to on the above steps.
Your car should start without any use of the gas pedal.

It could also be a fuel or spark plug problem too...I am having trouble starting my car as well. I suspect there is something wrong with the fuel pump. I don't think it has ever been replaced. Everything else checks out okay...any thoughts?
