Concerned with sound of starting car
Concerned with sound of starting car
Hi to all.. I just brought a 95 Se Max wit 97,000 miles. My only concern is the sound it makes when it starts. I notice that the starter chokes a little but the car always stars fine. Should I be worried about future problems such as car not starting???
Any advise appreciated

That's a common problem with the 95-96 starters. I drove around with it for 2-3 years like that without too much of a problem. It only happened in the winters or on cold mornings.
Eventually it did start getting worse. It would start then stall. Only way to get it to start smoothly was to step on the gas for a second or two as I started the engine.
You've got three options:
1. Go to www.motorvate.ca try the regreasing fix
2. Replace the starter yourself ($50-80? at junkyard / $140 @ Autozone)
3. Have a shop or dealer replace it ($250-400)
Good luck.

i have the same problem with my car. i bought a starter from autzone and someone put it in for $40 but the noise it made with the old starter is still present when i turn on the car. why is that?
and sometimes the car will BARELY start.

The same is happening to me!I bought 2 in less than to 2yrs.and still the same problem, I guess regreaseing the starter when you first get it is a wise choice I think. We should post this so everyone knows when they get thier starters to regrease them with with some good stuff.
Are your starters making an grinding noise when you start the car?
If so, then it's probably the starter.
If not, then there's probably something else wrong.
Check all your wire connections. Check ignition fuses.
Make sure your battery and alternator are working within spec.
You can have Autozone check them for free.
Clean your throttle body. Procedure at www.motorvate.ca
Has the fuel filter been changed recently? If more than 30k, change it.
There's a few other things you could check..do a search.
