K&N drop-in vs. cone intake
Drop In vs Cone
Horsepower increase?...I can't tell you cause I haven't dynoed my Max... But the throttle response is definetly worth the investment. That was the greatest improvement I found.
the stillen cone intake is nice, and when accelerating, it sounds good; my friends have been surprised by the way my car sounds when on an on-ramp.
while on the subject of cone intakes, how often do you clean it? i noticed that it doesnt look dirty, but if i clean it, it sounds better (when clean).

I just wanted to add a differing opinion on the subject. I don't have any exhaust mods yet so that may be part of the reason, but when I put on the JWT I didn't notice any gains. The only thing I got was less response in lower rpm range and a car that sounded like a '79 camaro when I stepped on the gas hard. I took it off and returned it after one day.
Just my 2 cents.

hmm.
i have had the K&N drop in for a few months now and didn't notice anything great, maybe for the first day there was improvement (most likely just excitement about getting it) JWT popcharger in the mail and to be installed after my car gets back from the shop. I have heard both sides before about the drop in or popcharger. but in my opinion i would go with a popcharger over the drop in because of the small but noticed gain in HP (i know this from my friends max, test drove it hard before and after to see any difference) the JWT and the Stillen are also basically the same except for the Stillen chrome plate on the end of their K&N filter. the JWT popcharger also uses a K&N filter. And actually as for the cleaning issue, it says on the K&N cleaning manual that dirt actually helps to filter out the crap you don't want getting into your engine, so don't over clean it, but if sound is diminished when it is dirty and that is what you are looking for then cleaning it shouldn't be an problem.

I am also thinking about putting in a cone intake. I saw this question asked earlier in this topic but didn't see an answer. Would you have to remove it when taking your car to Nissan for service? Is there a noticable difference when you don't modify your exhaust?

yeah...
the best would probobly be the CAI hp and sound wise but i think its kinda loud in my opinion, i hate riding in a car that vibrates (from noise) so much my fillings get radio stations. If HP is what you want don't bother with teh drop in and go with the CAI for roguhly 50 bucks more than the Stillen pop. i don't want to bother with the CAI because it is louder then the popcharger especially when your on the highway, and i am not F*cking with cutting a hole into my fender wall which you need to do to place the filter through to get the "cooler" air.
Nissan Sucks, dealership wise that is, when it comes to warranties, if that is what you are worried about. i've been told that warranty gets voided because of the popcharger, only if they can prove that the popcharger contribute to any damage caused. to be safe take it out, in my opinion my car doesn't really go to the dealer that often (Car still under warranty)popcharger basically a snap to take out and put in if you want to CAI a little more complicated. 30 minutes is nothing to keep your warranty intact especially if you have the 100,000 mile warranty like i do.
