no, it won't make a difference. If you're still skeptical, just take a look at how much resistance in the stock intake and compare it to your new one. Oh yea, if money isn't a problem, you should just buy a midpipe. It would save time and stress.

I got double-sided brass barb connectors, and cut them so very little extended into the actual pipe. Mine still stick in a little, and I've had no problems with it. I have some pics on my site, but not of the inside.

I would not sweat it. Mine stick in like an 1/8" or a little more. An intake is not a real big HP{ mod in the first place.

Not sure about the I30...but my Max got incredible gains off of my custom intake, it cost me $15 from Lowe's plumbing section and $20 for filter and adapter from ebay. Click on my website..go to pg 2 I think, There are some pics and some instructions.

Bringin' back from the dead. The cone filter you got from ebay, is it rechargable like the k&n, just spray it with some oil, dry and replace, or is that only a k&n thing???

It's a Matrix, get a new one when it's dirty, it's $20 w/ adapter. I'm sure you could clean it,

No it probably won't, but if your still unsure just unscrew them a little. If you feel the need you could lock them in with your choice of sealant.

If you are talking about replacing the "box" that has the 3 Vacuum Hoses coming off of it...

Lowe's - Plumbing Section - 3" Fernco Rubber Coupling

Page 2 of my Homepage for hose adapters

I just installed the homemade cone intake on my 97se and I had to screw the larger adapter at least a 1/4" past the I.D. since the adapter I used had a tapered thread and my hole came out a little bigger than I planned. So far it seems to work well but I may fix it with a new adapter and sealant later on.

Off the subject did you use the small breather filter on the engine block? I used the original hose and put the breather at the end to keep it away from the heat a bit. Also I kept the scoop intact but removed the bottom half of the original air box. The rectangular opening now dumps some air out right where the cone is. IU don't know if this helps at all though. All in all a fun project except for the 4 stores before I found the 3" ID pipe. Have fun

After trying to make countless home intakes, my advice would be just buy a manufactured one because in the end it will cost less.

After making two different homemade intakes, my advice is to do it. It will cost less and it's the same damn thing.

Having an intake just the way and color you want it, getting hp at a much lower cost, and impressing everyone with your ability to make a proffesional looking intake, is the other half

got my midpipe from a local muffler shop for ~$15... the guy cut and flared it to fit the couplings and gave me some new hose clamps. worth the extra few $$ to me. plus he offered to make a b pipe for me for $80 w/ or w/o resonator... my next project.
