How to improve gas mileage?

i heard people doing maintenance like the pcv valve, 02 sensor, ngk plugs, or knock sensor...which one should I do since my car is a 98 with close to 50k? also where is the cheapest place to buy parts for them?

At 60K your due for a tune up.

Plugs
Air and fuel filters
Clean or replace your PCV valve
Clean your throttle body
Inspect belts, hoses, coolant, brakes, ect.
Transmission fluid change
Power steering fluid change
Change oil and filter if needed too

The o2 and knock sensors are not maintenance items. If they fail, you replace them.

You can get the parts at your local Nissan dealer or try Courtesy Nissan on line. They have tune up kits for the Maxima at very good prices.

- shifts when u hit 3000rpm

I love everything else Costco sells, but after constant hesitation with Costco 91 octane, I will never buy it again. I am also super wary of these crappy Nissan knock sensors which go bad all the time. No point killing another sensor by running Costco super.

I wouldn't do this...

on a FULL tank of gas, you're looking at MAYBE $3 more for premium.
So, if you buy a full tank a week, that's $150 more per year.

Your car is meant for PREMIUM...running crappy gas will retard timing, meaning
less horsepower, and basically a poorer running car.

you're extra $3 could save you MANY DOLLARS down the road...especially
when you tell a perspective buyer "I always used premium", and because your
repair bills will be lower...

my $0.02,

What??

Use 87 octane if you want to keep replacing knock sensors and other various parts due to using this gas. Or, if you want to keep your max for a long time, use the recomended 91 octane or higher.

Do not use 87 octane gasoline in a Maxima. Maximas require at least mid grade gas, if not premium. 87 octane would not increase your gas mileage anyway. The one time I put 89 octane in instead of premium 93, I had a knock sensor code come up.
