Tranny problem after visiting dealership

Took my car in this morning for a oil change and to see why my car was leaking oil. 4 hours later the dealer calls me up and tells me to stop in because they want to show me what is leaking. I can see that the bottom of the differential casing is covered in oil and he also shows me there is some play in the drivers side axle. So they give me a quote of $2000 to rebuild the differential and replace some of the syncros and possible more depending on what they find inside the tranny. Well that just made my day. So I took it down to a speed shop that my buddy always goes to and for basically the same price he would put in a VLSD tranny($1000 for tranny), a Clutchmasters stage 3 clutch, and install. Thought I would ask your opinions and see what you thought. And for those with the VLSD what do you think of them and have you had many problems with them. Thanks for any input, I plan to figure out what I am going to do and order parts tommorrow.

The dealer is always going to rape you on service. Have your buddy do the work and definately get the Limited Slip Diff. put in.

But make sure, before you put that LSD tranny in, you properly shim the bearings. If you don't, the same thing will happen down the road, no matter what.
