Cop clocked us at 147 and did not give a ticket Just a warning and asked about the Max, I gota tell you It was unbelivable, scary and exciting, we did not think it would be 147. It was a 94 SE 5 speed with over 120 thou on it but in great condition and stock as a motha****** The needle got stuck at the "MPH" mark or 6 'o clck what ever you want to call it but the RPM's kept climbing, I don't remember exactly but it was at about 5K mark...damn ever sense then Maxima is may car.

96 Maxiam, auto, no mods yet, just got it not to long ago and belive me don't want to risk topping that record on my own Maxi ...

I got it to 140 two days ago northbound on I-380 in PA ,a great place to go fast, its 27 miles of relatively straight highway and I have NEVER seen a PA trooper there. That's in a stock(almost) GLE. Don't think that I had much more though. Anybody know if you can go faster if you go downhill? I tried it once in my old Galant GSR and got to 136 mph, but when I started going downhill, it didn't seem to go any faster.

140?

How, may I ask, did you max out your speed in your GLE? And it's almost stock? How did you get passed the governor without making any mods?

I'll have to ask my uncle about just what he's done with the car, because he had it before me. The needle was indeed touching the 140 mark, but I do know that speedometers are usually off as the go over 100+mph. I'll see if I can get a picture of it for you next time I do it. Should be in the next week or so, that is if it doesn't snow again.

Top Speed

A couple years ago I lived in NC, there is a stretch of I-40 that is unihabited for about 120 miles, I routinely got speeds of a buck 30. I screwed up the first time, took the OD off and couldn't get past 120.

Both times were runs down 281 heading south starting at the first turnaround north of 1604. That place is great because no cop can see you from the access roads because the access roads are all way above the freeway and you'll hit 140 and still have time to slow down by the time you reach the first on-ramp where a cop can see you.
Hey, I used to live in SA... That stretch of 281 is almost all uphill until you get to... Thousand Oaks...? Hoo boy, I *never* would have tried for a new land-speed record there, unless I was on my way to Chesters! :-)

pegged the needle on 140(+)...

but the door seals pop & flutter (really f'ing annoying) at ~125...and it doesn't pull as hard after 125-130 either...

I got up to 140...and it was super smooth. No serious mods, just a HKS intake.

130+ in my bone stock 99 auto, I've hit 120 a couple times in my new ride though. In my auto, I just kept it in 3rd until 120 and then turned overdrive on.

i've gone 143, driving from nj to montreal on the freeway, the road was beginning to curve so i didnt get to take it too much higher but i would have probably gotten at least 147ish maybe up to 150 had there been more straigher road ahead

Due to the inaccuracy of the speedometer I can only estimate the true MPH being 135-140ish with speedo a tick over 140. Did on two occasions. Down here in the FL panhandle theres a strip of highway between Ft Walton and Destin with nothing but sand on either side and strecthes about 6 miles. Late nights when tourist season is over it's pretty dead.

hit the speed governor (118) in my '96 GXE on ocean parkway here on long island...

it was about 3am, its about a 20 mile straight-away (not too many other roads like that in the nyc/western long island area). if not for the governor i would have pushed it much further. the ride was so smooth.

also hit 115 on the long island expressway late at night (stupid move really, cops swarm that road... but i couldn't let that saturn pass me ).

Ive had the speedo a little past the 140 mark, who knows how fast it was but I was passing cars that were doing 70 like they were standing still.

I wasn't scared to take my 95 SHO past 140 and it sure as **** wanted more too. It was a beast on the highway...

not sure how the laws work where you're from, but in NY, 34+ over the speed limit = kiss your license goodbye.

good luck in court. =p

Well, I know what the laws are on the Autobahn. I've only hit 138 than the car ran out of breath cause it was taking forever to hit 140.

I hit 140 pretty quickly on the downhill side of Elk mountain today. Didn't have the guts to take it any farther though.

in my 95 - about 125(got scurrd), had gotten a ticket in my 90 max doing 93 on I95 that almost cost me my license...thank god for The Court of Common Pleas, and that the cop didn't clock me at what I was doing, cause I had no idea since the needle was buried. I got them to drop it to 69 (hahaha) in a 55 and still got full points, which took me up to (or above) the legal limit. I try to take it easy now, I barely crack 100 now for more than a few seconds while passing.

cant get above 120 or so, but i do it often, just about every time a honduh messes with me. GSP at the end near NY border is a good road, 287 is a good rd, and also Rt84 in NY is an excellent rd. just watch out for po-po
