95' maxima's fuel economy problem.........
the 95' maxima GLE that I drive now is eats up around 17 gallons of fuel per mile which very low in comparison to how the car's fuel economy originaly is rated(23city/28hwy) ......I don't know if this is how it is with 95 maximas with over 80k miles or the car is ****ed up and need a major tune up...anyone with this problem??

Holy ****! 17 gallons per mile? Do you just drive from gas station to gas station?
J/K, but I would imagine how you drive the car is going to be the biggest factor. Romping on it around town, I only get about 18 or so, but if I'm able to take a 2-3 hour drive without putting my foot down every few seconds, I've can and have got around 30 or so.

with combination city/highway driving, i get about 20-23 mpg...I had a really nasty drop in mpg one time, turned out my tires were about 5-7 psi underinflated....it doesn't hurt to check the pressure in your tires....it does affect gas mileage that much...

I just turned 130,000 miles yesterday, and I still get 25+ mpg in the city. My Maxima is a 5-speed(helps w/ gas mpg), and I keep the tire pressure around 38psi(tire sidewall says maximum 44psi). If I'm racing, I lower it to 32psi. Even at 32psi and racing conditions, I will still get upwards of 22mpg city. I am sorry for you Maxima owners that only get 15-18 mpg. Unless you drive really hard all the time, you shouldn't be getting the same fuel mileage as a V8. Maybe you need a complete tune-up.

Yeah I get about 19 in the city...but I am not scared of the gas on my 5-spd...I got a noticeable improvement from replacing my knock sensor, and adjusting my tire pressure...which was really low on 3 of 4...when was the last time you changed your plugs?

"Assuming" that all the other electrical/mechanica items are in good working order, I would start suspecting the 02 sensor. I lazy one will NOT trip the cel light. If you can improve your mileage from 15-25 mpg, you could pay for your 02 sensor in about 2-3 months

For a sudden drop in fuel economy, check the ECU for codes relating to O2 sensors or knock sensor. I recently replaced my knock sensor and my fuel economy has improved noticeably (as well as full throttle pickup).
An O2 sensor problem will trip the CEL. The knock sensor will not.

Good thinking KS might do it too. But at least in my 3-gen, my 02 was getting lazy but no cel light. Just operating near the low limits I guess. Maybe 3-gens are different
