disconnecting battery

My Maxima repair manual says that disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 24 hours will erase the ECU memory. Besides erasing trouble codes and radio presets, what else would be erased?

It also erases the self learning the ECU has done since you've been driving the car. This is not a problem as the car will start to relearn your driving style again, this is dynamic and the car is always updating itself anyway so its not particulaly harmful.

nothing else really.... just that stuff. I know that doing that would also reset the fuel/air mixture ratios and stuff. I do that everytime i modded my car (like when i put on my cone filter) and stuff like that. The only "inconvenience" is the radio presets.

So I wouldn't have to drive like a grandma for 1000 miles like you do to break-in a new car?

haha no no, don't worry about that. The breaking-in part is just for the new parts (hardware). For example, when you get new brakes or new tires, you want to give it that 1000 mile grace period before you start slamming on em or attempt drifting... they need to be "softened" out evenly before u can start using them regular use.

Always gotta go easy on something that's new. The ECU is all software, no need to worry about it.
