potential tranny woes

Hey guys. I was reading somewhere (I cant remember where now, yes I am an idiot) that there is a common problem in our maxs. At around 60k miles there is a problem with the 5-speed tranny...I remember it saying that bearings in the tranny that were not schimed properly by the factory expand seals and the rest I cant remember. i was concerned because they said the symptoms were a lot of whining from the tranny and metal shavings in the tranny fluid. My car does whine a lot, so much so that people riding in it have asked me if it was charged. This is only in first and somewhat in second. I wanted to jack the car and check the fluid level today but my car is under a foot of snow and i dont have a shovel (for your own good, dont ever, ever move to buffalo!!!) My question: is there someplace I can read more about this problem and find other possible symptoms? I am very concerned, if I am having this problem I would like to have it taken care of. Thanks so much!
