Got killed by WRX STI!

I was coming back from our local mall when I look behind me and see the WRX STI Wagon. I think it was a 2002. Well I was with my brother and was telling myself that I was about to get killed. I knew he was gona mess with me because I have a kit on my car. I am a Rice God! Well we come up on a curb that turned in a 40 degree angle and he just left me. I had took O/D off and let her rip. He just pulled away. I was like Dang. Those things are nice cars. Hats off to Subaru.

Are the STI's here

First off I would never race around a corner, that's how people lose control and get people killed.

Second, taking over drive off will make you slower, if you use it to down shift, immedialty punch it back in, it won't make a difference until about 55, but that's when having overdrive on will give you more pull. Your an auto magic, 35 and under shift to first, between 40-60 shift to second, 60 and over take overdrive off (wait till it down shifts) then hammer it and turn overdrive on.

Third, I don't know why I'm telling you this when you just raced around a corner, and you gave the WRX the impression that your Max was modified which makes him think that modified max's are nothing, which gives us all a bad name.

Don't race around corners, and please if you race someone catch back up to the person and tell them that your stock and not modified as your kit perpetuates.

Well I remember that the new STI were coming out with a more agressive front end and the hood scoop was higher up than and regular WRX. And the front end said STI, but then again it was still fast.

Ya and your max gives the impression of being modified, it's not hard to make your car look faster than it is by attaching crap to it.

Hats off to subaru for making a fast car, he'll prolly always be faster, but around this time next year, you're car will still be driving around, looking nice with the kit, and his tranny will probably be getting redone.....i've heard they aren't very reliable, i may be misinformed, but i don't think so

This is a nice sight to review cars. It is from the actual owners and their exprience.

http://www.carreview.com/Sports+Cars...1_1528crx.aspx

There are 168 reviews of the WRX.

Lets just say I haven't owned an auto Maxima before (I have) and lets just say I never raced it (I did). Could you please tell me how turning overdrive on during third gear actually makes the car faster?

thanks!

If you have an auto, or know someone with one try this. Get going 60-80 (or higher) on the highway, turn overdrive off (the car will down shift to third) floor it then turn overdrive back on (you can even wait a while before engaging overdrive back on if you want), your car will stay in third gear but your RPM's will jump up about 500 rpm's and pull much harder. This has been discussed before. But to answer your question I would call it

AUTOMAGIC

Have you not heard of this? Just ask one fo the auto's to try this. This is for a 4th gen, mine is a 96 and there is a world of difference above 55 between that light being on and that light being off.

I had an auto and raced it at the track. Show me time slips that prove having your automagic button pushed makes your car faster when it is in 3rd gear. (Once these are posted I will jump on the bandwagon ) thanks!

oh, and butt dynos don't count!

In my experience, from a stop, having OD on/off doesn't make any difference. Only when I go from a roll would it make any difference. The problem when in a rolling race is that the darn auto tranny would sometimes lock up 4th gear, so when you slam on the gas, it wouldn't downshift. So to prevent that, I turn OD off when in a race or when I just want to push the car. If I know for sure someone going to race me from a stop, I just leave OD on. However, most of my races were from a roll because I had no idea if the guy wanted to go or not. So I turned OD off ahead of time so just in case the guy wanted to race, I could stomp on the gas and not have to worry about the tranny locking up. So in my experience, having OD on/off does make some difference in a roll, not from a stop though.

And yes I have even tested this out at the track. From a stop, it made no difference. In N/A form, I ran a 15.6 with OD on and another 15.6 with OD off. I forgot the exact numbers, they do differ somewhat, but not much. About the same trap speed too. So when I'm at the track, I usually leave OD on.

I test drove a brand new 2002 WRX several months ago. They are fast. They are not ungodly fast off the line, it won't make much boost with the clutch engaged. Around 3 grand the turbo pins ya back. Also the WRX had a definate advantage accelerating around a corner, for odvious reasons. The 5 speeds run about a 14.5 quarter, while the auto turns about a 16. Big difference. A friend of mine owns a company called Turbo Specialties, he bought a WRX coup auto, bolted on a custom built T4 ball bearing turbo, full exhaust, blowoff valve, bypassed the boost limiter, and cracked er up to 14PSI of boost. now it turns low 13's. A little off the subject but it's late and I am bored.

WRX = Smallest, most worthless turbo that comes on a stock turbo vehicle. I dont know about anyone else here thats has a 5-speed and raced wrx's but the turbo lag seems unreal when your pulling on him first then once his turbo kicks in, your already in second and its all over for him.

5speed max vs. wrx
max by a slim margin.

Yeah but arounda turn awd = good, fwd = horrible. You will actually be slowing down because the drive wheels are turning.

Good....Auto Max vs. WRX he should get ya

I will argee with Sean97SE....The lag sux, go drive one, you will see the pull of a good manual I/Y/E Max holds the WRX in the non-launch areas of the run.

I raced a WRX from a stop light. His lane was ending, and he was trying to get into mine. Since it was wet out, I could not get any traction whatsoever, so he ended up gaining about a half car length by the time we hit like 40 mph ( I know, slow speeds, but I didn't want to kill anyone.)

My friend has a turbo eclipse gst, and lemmie tell you turbo lag blows...we raced from a light, and remember i'm an auto max and this was before my intake. I BURNNNED him to about 65-70 MPH then as if i had slammed on my brakes he FLEW by me like i was standing still. One benefit to having our nice sized and torque VQ engines is (and correct me if i'm wrong), once we turbo our cars turbo lag won't be much of a problem cause there already pretty powerful off the line. BUT until you get a turbo, your every turbo cars biatch .

b pipe and muffler don't really do anything, a straight pipe would help you more than they would, also you don't have an intake?????

You know what, everyone, cry about it. WRX may beat you, it may not, there is no arguement on which would win, everyone is a different driver. But my point is, all of nissans cars = nissan technology.
WRX = subaru shell. The "boxer" engine design is courtesy of porsche, and the turbo is a small mitsubishi turbo. It's basically a gsx motor with 27 more hp and 2 doors, not to mention neon headlights. Yuck. Id much rather cruise in a hot looking 4 door than a misproportioned patent bending monster truck.
