a 2k2 stock auto vs. 4th gen 5speed with y-pipe, intake i would say that the 4th gen would pull for sure. (assuming you can drive) the average 2k2 auto runs a low 15 high 14 i believe and good driver with a 4th gen 5speed with y/i should run high to mid 14's. but dont plan on beating a 2k2 6speed anytime soon, unless u catch a horrible driver, if you are racing a 2k2 auto from a stop with those mods u should pull a car or 2 especially at fast speeds, but if you can, go from a roll.

i doubt a 5 speed 4th gen with I/Y/E would pull on a auto 2k2 maxima. The 2k2 just have too much power, plus it has variable valve timing or whatever to help at higher RPMs.

If you race a 2k2 6-speed, forget about it, unless you are a really good driver.

In my opinion I don't think that the 2K2 Maxima (auto) is that much faster than a 4th Gen (5-speed). I haven't driven a 6-speed so I can't comment how fast those are but I know they are faster. I have a '97 5-speed and my mom has a 2K2 auto that I have been driving around because my '97 is in the shop, damn diff. bearings. And I don't think the 2K2 is much faster if it is at all.

I put my money on a 4th gen with I/Y over a 2k2 auto.

so a 5spd with I/Y/E which mostly runs mid 14s can't take an auto 2k2 which mostly runs high 14s to low 15s??? i thought 5spds do high 14s low 15s stock.
if it's a highway run, then the auto 2k2 might be better on the top end.

my bet is on the modded 5spd.

i didnt say the 5 spd couldnt win. I just said it wouldn't be pulling on the auto 2k2, especially at higher rpms.

Basically the race would come down to whether the 5 speed driver got a good launch, and was able to get ahead in the beginning.

so what are u saying? that it'd be a tie?

btw, let's say he's an avg. driver.
no point in racing if u can't drive right?

i'm sure on the 1/4 track nealoc can give a 6spd a good run, if not pull on one...even without the slicks

I drove the 2k2 6-spd SE right after I drove the 99 5-spd SE (which I bought afterwards) to assure myself on the decision I was making..heh. In all the right places, the 6-spd of course felt stronger from 2nd gear on, but in comparison to the 99, the 2k2 didn't feel it was that much faster, even with all the extra power. It seemed that even cruising on the highway at 80 mph, it wouldn't even matter whether I had the car in 5th or 6th gear, the RPM's didn't even move. I wasn't too impressed with the 6-spd, which boasted my confidence in buying the 99. The 2k2 6-spd was indeed a nice car, but it don't think the tuning is as refined as the previous 3rd and 4th gens, rather it is just another car with a bigger motor and more power. I do love the HID's though, but I love the styling of the 4th gen SE's. I think both cars are fairly good contenders from first through third gear. That's my impression.

Hmmmm

I know my 97 5-Spd pulls hard on my Auto 2K1 from a launch, but once up to speed, they're pretty closely matched. Depends on how long the race is. The auto 2K2 will definately launch better than my 2K1, so your jump may not be all that much. Once up to speed, he's probably gonna gain on you. This is where the (how Long) comes in. Highway, he'll cathc you. One block or two, you can probably take him.
