I bought the car from a repo-outlet so they didn't have the original key or possible remote. Its a fully loaded 96 SE, but is there any way of finding out if it had a keyless entry system already installed? A reciever box somewhere or an easy test?

TIA

This reponse is based on information from the '99 Maxima factory service manual. I'm hoping your '96 is wired the same way.

The manual refers to the keyless remote feature as the Multi-Remote Control System. It uses a Multi-Remote Control Relay. Look to see if your car has this relay.

1) Open the trunk. Remove the trunk compartment floor carpet and the fiberboard spare tire cover. These are removed with your hands; no tools are required.

2) Remove the cardboard trunk trim which surrounds the latch mechanism. The five plastic fasteners which secure it are quarter-turn latches and come loose easily when turned with a Phillips head screwdriver.

3) Look at the area of the trunk latch mechanism, made visible by removal of the the trim panel. Locate electrical connector T5. This is a brown plastic connector with 6 terminal positions. If your Maxima does not have the keyless entry feature you will find connector T5 taped up so it does not rattle, but with no relay plugged into it.

4) Reinstall all the trim you removed.

This whole operation should take three minutes.

What he said.... :-) (Sounds like Daniel knows what he's talking about)

Falling short of that, it's virtually certain that an aftermarket alarm can integrate with your power doors. It'd also make your car unstealable, protect the stereo and contents of the car, and yes, make it awfully hard to repo too...

ok - here we go.. I have a 95 GXE and I pulled the carpet up and going on what I have read - I do have keyless entry. However it ain't workin I took my car to the dealer and the guy tried to program it the way I have read about on this forum and nothing happened. According to him - the flashers are supposed to blink while you are shoving the key in and out of the ignition. I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Not sure if this is related but I have NO power to the rear passenger door - power lock and window do not work. I have checked all the fuses in the dash just to be sure and they are all fine. Any ideas?

thanks!

Does your remote have a fresh battery in it?

I have no clue if the remote battery is good or not. (Wish it was that simple!) I didn't get one when I bought the car so I managed to talk the head mechanic into giving me a spare. (Nissan wanted $110.00!!! I asked the parts guy if that came with lube or not cuz they were trying to screw me.) According to what I've read - when the flashers blink it is to wipe the codes period. Then you use the new remote to program the new codes - it wouldn't matter if the remote battery was dead cuz I can't even get the car to respond.

Thanks for the idead tho!

I think I know what is wrong. I noticed on my car when I was changing the LED's in the window switches when the window switch is un hooked, there is no power to the door. I had my passenger's out working on it, and I went to the store for something. When I opened the drivers door, you know how the door lights and stuff turn when the door is opened... Well the one on the passenger's side didn't light up. And I noticed that I couldn't move the window or lock the door using the power buttons on my door.

In short; Check your window switch on the broken door. It just pops out. I'll bet the wiring harness is loose... Take it out and pop it back in again. Maybe this will help.
