odometer problems

Posted this a couple of times before. Thought I would try one last time: Have a 96 Max, 5sp. Analog odometer and tripometer just stopped working for period of several days (figure we drove over 200 miles). Tried resetting the tripometer several times, no luck. As of a few days ago both gauges are now mysteriously working again!!! Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas as to the cause (and fix should it happen again)? Thanks.

Same thing here - 96 gle

but this happened a bit before my starter died. Chenged ny starter and ever since, both meters have been working. Don`t know if it is much help, but check the wires near the starter. they are located under your airbox/ tb.

Good luck friend.

It is your vehicle speed sensor. I had the same symptoms as you, except my speedo also would not work. I checked the harness going to the vehicle speed sensor and it was secure and not loose. So, I got one from Ericdwong for $10.00, popped it in, and everything works now.

Thanks, but have been unable to find a part called a "speed sensor" and I don't know who ericdwong is. Any ideas where I can find this part and/or get some info on what's involved with installing it?
