I have a CAI and I live in florida where rains the time. I measured the distance from the ground to the bottom of the filter, and if a remember it was like 13 inches off the ground. Puddles and rain won't hurt it. If a road floods, don't drive through it. All you have to do is stay out of flood water.

No problem
I too, am getting a CAI. Actually it is in the mail coming to me. You should not have a problem with it, because I know of numerous max's around town that have it and they have no problem.Unlike the Civic and Intergra, the Maxima filter sits inside the bumper. Where as the civic and integra sits right below the engine, with no protection. Why do you think AEM had to come up with a Bypass valve for its CAI. Unless you are a moron and drive your car thru a 2ft peddle you should be ok. My friend just put one in his max two weels ago, and he hasn't complained about any water gatting in it because we live in NYC and there was a snow storm this past weekend. Just get it and don't worry.

I have a question for those with the intake. When I installed mine, I put the fender lining back on and then cut out the bottom of the lining facing the ground. This way cooler air passing under the car could go up into the intake. Has anyone else done this. If not what did you do?
Oh yeah, Blackmax62, this will show you how safe it is. The day I installed my CAI, I drove to my friends house 30 minutes away. I didn't put the fender lining back on. So on the way home this massive down pour started. My tire was spraying the filter with water all the way home. I didn't have any problems with it. I not positive, but I don't think the intake sucks hard enough to pull water up pipe.

Yeah, let me clear that up, When I said that I don't think It sucks hard enough to pull water up the pipe, I was referring to water spray. Of course if you dunk it in water it will suck it it up like a straw a very large straw.

I've had the Place Racing kit for about 6 month and I've had Zero problems with it. I don't think anyone has ever reported getting water into it with a maxima. The kit that almost everyone has is the Place Racing Kit, which is the one that cattman sells.

I would think if you cut a hole in the bottom of the fender liner you would have to clean your filter on a regular basis with all of the dirt coming in. At my last visit to the track I pulled the fog light out in front of the air filter, thinking the extra air coming in would result in more power. My times improved by .2 sec and MPH improved slightly with the fog light IN.
