highpitch sound from the engine bay, HELP

Hi:

This started few weeks ago. When I start my car in the morning whenever it is cold outside, it has very highpitch sound from the engine bay. It sounds like coming from the alternator but not sure. The sound sounds like metal rubbing metal or it needs lubicating. After the car is warmed up, it goes away. Interesting enough, if I start the car without stapping on the brake (I have 5sp), there is no sound. As soon as I step on the brake, the sound comes. Any ideas what's wrong?

I had similar problem before and the alternator was replaced about 1/2 year. There was a defact issued from the manufactor. If the problem comes from the alternator, will this be convered?

97 SE 5 sp

Thanks

Also run a search on "belt" or "squeal" to find the threads on diagnosis and how to fix.

First off
BlackCat I love your car! Second, My alternator was making a sqeeling noise when Idoling, then when I'd rev it up it'd get louder then go away. Finally it died on me. It came apart on me. Theres 6 or 7 bolts that hold the alternator together and there wasnt any there. So I could actually twist the aleternators two parts back and forth. Bummer

Thanks for the compliment!
I'm planning figure how to mount the license plate below the bumper next.

You were missing the bolts on the alternator? Holy cow! How did that happen?

Im not really sure. I put that one on myself and never noticed the bolts missing. So either i was payin attention or it never had them. But i sure checked when i put this new one on. ( I bought a remanufactured one from autozone, so always check for bolts. )
