fluid leak - help
I see some fluid drippin down in this area, I checked the fuel filter but it's fine, I see the inner part of the turning rod boot (don't know the proper name) has some fluid around it.
Any idea where the fluid come from?
Thanks,

I am sure it's not water (haven't use the AC today). It look and feel like some type of oil, clear and has a hint of yellow in it.
I will clean that part when the engine cool down, it has a lot of build up in that area.

could the transmission output seal be leaking and oil getting splattered around by the axle spinning??....if you have a 5 speed, that could be very bad news....
if it is your power steering rack that's not so bad...a lot of cars develope some amount of a leak.....power steering fluid is cheap, and you can buy a lot of bottles of it for the cost of a new rack, installation and an alignment.
good luck,
john

Son of a *****, I just looked under my wifes car today because there is fluid under it and guess what? Steering rack, left side is leaking. The resovior was low on steering fluid too. Our car has 90K on it. I wonder if 4G Maximas let go their steering rack at this age? Ours is a 97.
I am going to post a thread asking who had theirs replaced other than Nissan.
I replaced the rack on my NX2000. What a PITA. And it has a knock in it when I turn slowly to the right. I hate rebuilds but @ $800+ for a dealer rack new I will take my chance.

OK, here is the results of me looking under the car. The return line of the steering rack. The clamp was loose. I tightened it up with a 10mm socket. I was at the dealer getting parts for my NX and my buddy who works in service told the that Nissan had a voluntary campaign to tighten the hose for free. I checked in service but my VIN came up negative. It didn't matter cause I did it myself. So check the return line and after you tighten it up wash the area down and watch it for a few days. I will be checking it in a few days.
