advancing timing

i was reading on the 5th gen page and i saw that some of them were having the timing advanced 2-3 deg. by the dealer. is this something that can be done on a 4th gen?

I don't know, but I've heard that ignition timing can give you mad power gains. Does it really work?

You must be talking about initial timing advance, but i don't see any way of being done to a Maxima. I remember doing it to my Eclipse GST and made about 7-10 more hp without doing anything else. If it can be done on a 4th gen, i would love to do it too....

I thought that only worked while the consult was hooked up to the car? and once it's unhooked the timing goes back to oem specs?

Other than that... buy an ECU.

thats what i've heard also... but according to (some 5th gen guy), he had it done and its been at 17-18 deg (15 deg stock) for 8-9 months now. he said there is some trick to doing it so that it stays in the program. go to the 5th gen section (1st page as of now) and see if you can understand / remember more than i did. it sounds possible to do to a 4th gen... but????
