Basic question about 95 GLE

Does the 1995 GLE come standard with ABS brakes or is that an option? This may be a stupid question but i just can't remember

Yes, most, if not all, GLEs came with ABS. MY GXE does NOT have ABS, which sucks.......

Also, are you wondering if you actually have ABS? The easiest way to tell is to open up your hood and look below the brake master cylinder/boost. There would be a large metal "box" located on the driver's side strut tower with a few brake lines running in/out of it. If you have this, you have ABS, if not, then you are SOL.....

or you can always just slam on your brakes and see what happens.. if you slide you dont have abs. if your brake pedal forces back against your foot and you dont slide then you have it

What kind of GLE is that? Actually i probably would rather not have it anyway for a more sporty feel.

I did the slam test when i got the car, much easier, and a little more fun .

For those like myself who have ABS, have you notice that they are a little sensative, and go off really easily. For instance sunday night im pulling in my drive way, had to be less then 10 mph, and i hit the brakes just to slow up, didn't romp on them or anything, and it had just snowed, and sure enough even at that slow speed and low pressure the ABS went off. Not the first time they have gone off like that, granted they have saved me a few time from hitting stuff. For the most part they go off way to easy, and all i keep thinking about is how im destroying the new pads that i just put in less then 1k ago. (they where doing this b4 the brake job). just thought id share.

ABS was not standard on 4th gens, it came as an option. I can't speak for the 5th gens though, I have no idea about them.

If your ABS system is functioning properly, you should notice the ABS warning light in your meter cluster come on when you turn the key to IGN, just before you start (it goes off after you start the vehicle).

JettmiesterMax..
Did you buy a SE front bumper to add those fogs to your GLE?
As for the ABS if you live in an area that gets alot of snow (like me) having ABS is great. I sometimes forget that I don't have it when I'm in my Honda..that can be dangerous.

ptatohed;

It does not have to make sense to you. I never cared for ABS and still dont.

I live in an area that gets its fair share of rain and snow, but I know how to drive and stop fine without abs. abs can give a false sense of security...but more plainly, I just never liked it. Why do I have to?

95Supra;

About my front bumper, it is my stock GLE bumper. I just bought the SE fog kit and had it put on. The kit comes with a template to cut the holes. The car is pre wired and pre bracketed for fogs. the kit came with new headlamp/turnsignal stalk with integrated fog switch. I later had the bumper holes sanded and the entire front bumper repainted. Looks factory as can be.

I guess you don't have to but there is absolutely 0 percent reason not to like it. I have a GLE and I wish I had it!!! There is nothing not to like. It is so far superior. There is no way you can argue that you know how to stop manually just as well as ABS. It just can't be done. You can't compete with a computer. I do agree with you about the false sense of security. No one should drive any less safely/defensively just because they have ABS but it is unarguably better to have ABS than not. The only argument one could make is if they were driving on a sand/dirt road in which case the locking wheels actually collect a pile of dirt in front of them and stop the car quicker.
