I just took a drive in my friend's 2k2 mustang and ! anyway, I get back in my car and notice how much longer it takes for my tranny to shift. What kind of options are there for making these autotrajics to shift harder/faster? Also, what's the ups/downs to doing it? Thanks for any input you can give.

The only thing you can do to an auto to make it shift faster is modify the VB. Other than that, you have to live with it, or convert to a 5-speed

 

I thought I had read something about a resistor mod??? Anyone ever hear the same?

 

The resistor Mod is an extreme Mod. It makes all your shifts very hard and very fast... not good for the tranny. The VB mod allows the shifts to happen faster, but at the appropriate intervals responding to the way you are driving rather than slamming all the gears all the time.

I have an auto and i heard about that trick,so i went ahead and did it. It really pushes into gears harder but it feels very harsh like its doing damage. Which it did, eventually it messed up my whole transmition so i had to get a whole new rebuilt one at aamaco. Please dont mess with it man, I wish i had stick, but you just haveto live with it. in case your wondering where it is, its plug that is screwed right into the strut tower on the drivers side. Just dont mess with it!

 

I think a Performance Torque Convertor will also help you out...

Hey smart guys, some people say that Maximum Tuning's VB's prolong the life of the tranny, but does the harder shifting Stage 3 VB prolong it more than the Stage 2 assuming Stage 2 VB doesn't shift as hard?

You're right, I've heard that the VB mod prolongs the life because it prevents the tranny from having slippage problems. You'd have to ask Jeff about the firmness of the shifts. If I go with the VB, I'm definitely going to get the Stage 3. I've ridden in a Max with the Stage 2 and although its a quick and firm shift, it could definitely be better.

Have you rode in a Stage 2 VB'ed max? Mine is pretty firm only on the 1st to 2nd shift, the others seem to be quicker but not firm like that 1st shift. I heard one guy traded in his Stage 3 for a Stage 2 because it shifted so hard in all gears he thought he was going blow a motor mount. So with all that hard shifting the Stage 3 does, does it prolong the tranny better than the Stage 2?

 

I have both the VB mod and a Protorque TC.

My VB mod was done by don in texas, so I can't speak about maximum tuning's. The shifts with the VB mod are hard and fast, especially 1-2 shift. I've had mine for almost a year now and have not broken any motor mounts. My car, when I jump on it, will chirp 2nd everytime. I also run full synthetic and have a fresh tranny. Either way, personal opinion is that it's a good mod. You also have to have a tranny cooler when doing it right.

As for the TC...It only really helps when racing. It helps launch the car "better", but to be honest it's not something you will fall in love with. You can feel like the car pulls harder off the line like it had sticky tires, but that's it.
