Best Visibility H3 Bulb

Well I'm planning on replacing my PIAA Xtreme White headlights with the Xtravisions for more visible light output. Since I'm going to replace my Xtreme White headlighs, I thought I'd switch my fogs to something that gives more visibile light. What would be a good compliment to the Xtravisions?

Get the yellow ion PIAA h3's, those have the best road visibility.

I second the PIAA ion H3's, they look great. Especially when paired with a set of HIDs.

Yea, that is my plan when I replace my 5200K bulbs with 7500K's.

Philips Allweather

The Allweather H3 bulbs are great for visibility and won't break the bank too. I have had mine for a year now and they are still going strong. Definitely contrasts nicely with HIDs. About $22 shipped per pair from Autolamps.

85 Watt Hella Yellow Stars. But only if you only use the fogs in bad conditions. 85 Watts is too much to run all the time.

I have the PIAA H3's 3800K in my fogs with the Xtravisions. Thats the best lighting combo I've ever had on my car!

I have switched to the 9004 Sylvania Cool Blues. They have the same nice wide beam pattern only a touch whiter then the Xtravisions. That touch of white caused by filtering out some of the yellow does reduce visibility on wet or dark roadways. Still much better then any other bulb I've ever used.

Overall I think Sylvania makes the best 9004 bulbs for our cars. You can't go wrong with either one, the Xtravisions being the best, with a huge improvement in lighting up the road.

Tom,

I know you've gone through a lot of different lighting setups... But how well do the Xtravisions and PIAA 3800K fogs match up color wise?

I got rid of my PIAA Plasmas for 100W Diamond White Bulbs from JCWhitney. I'll give an update tomorrow.

Color wise, how so? On the road or looking at your own lights?

The Xtravisions are pure halogen and they do not match the PIAA 3800K fogs. It's not an extreme differnece but it's there. Here's a few pics of Xtravisions and PIAA on my garage/shed door. You can see the PIAA has a whiteish blue tint while the Xtravision is.. well.. nice and bright.

In this next pic you can see where the fogs hit the road just under the Xtravisions. Notice the slightly whiter light? Also take note that each parking space is approx 8 feet wide, count them and do some math. I thorw light over 40 feet down the road with this setup. You can also see the nice big square beam pattern the Xtravisions have as well. Parking spaces are longer then your car and you can see there lit up full width all the way down.

The Cool Blues from Sylvania do clear up the light quite a bit and match the PIAA H3's nicely both on the road and on your car

Personally, I've been using the Yellow Ion bulbs for 4+ years and they have always impressed me. I recently went to 9004 Xtravisions to get more light and they clearly throw at least 20% more light on the road in a side by side comparison.

As far as matching, I personally am less than worried about it, but I must admit that I am working on a new lighting configuration and considering yellow side markers instead of the amber to better match the fogs. Frankly, the 4th Gen has WAY too many lights on the front of the car. I think the bumper lights are unnecessary and ugly. Less ugly with clear lenses, but still ugly.

Are you still running with the Cool Blues, Tom? I might want to make that switch as well.

So the Cool Blues are exactly like the Xtravisions except you sacrifice bad weather visibility for a white tint which matches PIAA Platinum Super White fogs?

Just a few questions: Are the yellow Piaa Ion H3's 55 watts? Also, what kinda price tags along with a pair of those badboys? Can they be picked up at local performance shops? Lastly, does the brightness compare to the compact Lexus I series fogs?

They can be picked up for about $40 a pair. They perform excellently and are 55 watts (although they also come in the 85W variety). Not sure if you could pick them up locally, but I got mine from autosupermart.com who claims to beat anyone's prices - so if you find them cheaper, they will work with you. The brightness compares with Lexus, but not the color. They are not as yellow as Lexus. You will never find yellow bulbs like lexus. Lexus uses yellow capsules around the bulbs to get them the color they are.

The only bulb to compare it to would be the yellow Hella H3 bulbs which I think are a bit more yellow and I'm not sure how they perform as I have never had them on my car.

I hope this helped.
