Need A New Ecu!!!!

Alright fellas.......I just found out that I need a new ECU.......YAY! Any suggestions? Where to get one fairly cheap? Are there ways to upgrade your ECU for preformance? The dealership wants me to pay like 750 for one? That sounded high, I coulda swore I saw one online for much cheaper?

Thanks

Okay, here's the deal. My car had a really hard time starting for a LONG time. I kept getting codes on Knock sensor, Cam sensor, Crank sensor, etc. ALL replaced. Still wouldn't start. It like would hesitate and turn over....but start really spuratically......sometimes it would fire right up.......sometimes it would take 15-30 seconds. I posted a message about that problem and someone suggested cleaning my throttle body.......I did. Did nothing. It finally stopped starting ALL TOGETHER, so I had to have it towed from my house to the dealership. They say it's the ECU. Doesn't that make sense though, sense all those sensors keep bringing up codes? Some even more than once?

Thanks

Well I would try to swap ecus with a buddy to really see if that's it. The dealer rarely knows exactly what's wrong and usually just gets the customer to pay for their guesswork. Or try a junkyard. It's alot cheaper than a new ecu.

I'll bet you anything that the screw for the self diagnostic check on the ECU was overspun, past the stopping point. Happened to a friend of mine. BTW, good luck finding an ECU for a manual tranny max.

Either that or he many need to clean up the sensor gound points up near the fuel rail. Even the main battery to frame to chassis grounds could be weak. It sounds as if the sensor signals aren't strong enugh. If the ECU were to die, it wouldn't go slowly. You just don't run anymore. Like when a board on a PC goes down. You car died slowly which indicates it's able to run. Have you ever checked the measurements of the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor? Thats a jackpot device that sometimes doesn't throw a code and screws up things pretty good.

Try www.car-part.com. I just purchased a 96 SE 5 speed ECU for $100. There were a ton of 5 speed ECUs available for $100-350.
