Are The 2k2-2k3's Really That Fast As They Say????

Not for nothing, but I was on my way home from school and I pulled up next to a 2k2-2k3 SE at a red light. He look over at me and reved his engine, I knew I didn't have much chance. We took off and I just pulled away from him by 1.5 car lengths up to 80mph. I thought the 2k2s ran A 14.6 in th 1/4 mile stock? The only mods I have is HAI,y-pipe and pulley also my car weighs a little less than 2900lbs plus I'm 5spd. The 2k2 was an auto by the way. What do you think the cuase off me pulling on him like that?

sounds pretty normal to me...
there is only one stock auto that has hit 14.6, so don't make that a generalization.
weather conditions are also a factor, because no auto 2k2 can run 14.6 at my track. thats what the 6spds get up here...

if you look at the 5spds that have intake/ypipe, their times have been below 14.6 which shows that it CAN be done.

good kill btw

I cannot personally comment on the performance of the 2k2-up Maximas. I have not driven or raced against one personally. But from what I have read, there is a night and day difference between the autos and 6-speeds. From what everyone says, your story does not sound very surprising. Had that been a 6-speed, you would have had your rear end handed to you. Good kill.

Not tryin to brag or anything but If I didn't shut it down @ 80 I would of increased the length because I kept pulling and pulling away the faster I went, and the thing is I'm Cali-spec with no MEVI and Cat-back

Surprising, but obviously not impossible. In my experience in driving my 4th gen and 5th gen, he *should* have taken you off the line (auto or no). The difference in low-end torque between the 3.0 and 3.5 is serious. But, a bad launch will kill any torque advantage, so if he had an auto and didn't know how to launch it...

Then once you're up and running, your mods get you closer in HP nad you're a 5sp vs. an auto. Sounds like this one came down to the driver - nice job!

yeah not to burst your bubble but if the 2k2 wasnt so cocky about it and had a good lauch, you would have lost. good kill btw. and there is a 2k2 auto below 14.6.

Well have to see about that. It does depend on the driver, but everyone knows the good drivers drive stick. U better have a good launch against me.

There is A (read: one) 2k2 auto that ran 14.66 stock. "They" dont run 14.6's stock, one person doing so doesn't mean that's the norm. Typically they run 14.8ish @ 93ish mph.
