I dont have a Maxima, I wish I had one but I do have a 1989 Mazda 929 5spd, it has a 3L V6 and I do wanna put a muffler on it and Ive never heard one on my car so whzt all yours sound like ?? describe sound with these types of mufflers -

5 Zigen freball style (small straight through with slash tip)??

Apexi N1 style (bigger than the fireball same design) ??

Apexi Dunk style (similar to Stillen muffler for your gen 4's) ??

What muffler do you have and what does it sound like ??

My stock exhaust system isnt a dual and its simialr to Maximas, connecting beforore the cat, then going into a smaller muffler (resonator) and then into one huge RV sized muffler

Basically Im in search of somethin that looks good, improves low and mid-range torque, and isnt too loud. What would you recomend ??

low end power requires exhaust backpressure. no muffler you could ever add will add low end power, but it may add some upper end power. i have a magnaflow and am thrilled with it.

a lot of people do a custom exhaust with a b-pipe and then a muffler of choice, but many people have apexi WS, but i would say the most popular is greddy. and OBX seem to be getting big

I have an $800+ Greddy exhuast system. Little pricey brand new but if you can find a slightly used one you should be completely happy. This system gives me a nice throaty growl a low speeds and is actually very quiet at full throttle or high speeds. I think that's great because it doesn't attract unwanted attention from the Po Po.
Speaking of used systems I have one ready to go right now with a striaght through cat, very reasonable. Done with the racing and want to go to a regular muffler...really the wifey doesn't like the way I drive and insist it has something to do with the modded max
