Finally got around to installing....

the JWT ECU

After a wrong order shipment, and waiting an additional 2 weeks for JWT to send me an auto ecu (they sent me a manual one, thinking I was doing a 5-spd conversion...I wish), its finally installed!

I had it sitting on the passenger side floor for a bit as I didn't have time to remove the original ECU, but I did today, and is it ever a b!tch and a half to get those 2 rear screws out!!!

Glad its over and done with, and I'm enjoying no speed limiter (yes, I'm a GXE), 7000rpm redline, and a whole lotta low-midrange power boost!!

Time to dyno and see how bad the drivetrain loss is for the auto lol.

Although you probably don't have a CEL, maybe you can pull codes to see if you get a hard code.

JAY25: 14's is what I'm hopin! I know...My 60 ft's suck lol

redmaxpa007: I dno why JWT is tight with your year and 98's - bug them till they make 'em (I know this is what everyone has been doing, but they gotta realize the business sometime or another!)

mayhem: I'm not sure if it will work...it should if you're a 95-96

Mishmosh: Good idea. I'll try pulling codes tomorrow. I was under the impression that no CEL = working fine. Better safe than sorry I suppose.

tzmanles: Costed me $540 + shipping from Avalon.

Yes it was worth it because I want to stay N/A. If you are planning otherwise, it would be better to spend you money on an NX kit.

The outcome is what I said in my first post - better (butt-dynoed for now) low-mid range power, no speed limiter (I have a GXE), and 7000rpm redline. I plan to get a MEVI sometime, so this ecu had to go in sometime or another.

Re: hardcode

I get an EGR solenoid code with mine... but I have a 1995SE. JWT is telling me they still have some software issues to resolve and that's one of them. Reportedly, the code means nothing and the EGR system is fine. Was curious to see if the 1996 cars are the ones without the problems to be ironed out.

As for gains, you sure can feel them... the car has a little extra ooomph--not huge but definitely palpable! With the MEVI in particular, the flat spot at 4-5k is gone and you really just feel a nice smooth surge from 3k to redline.

Got mine for $530 from GR RAcing (Phuong).

Mishmosh...did you have to pull for codes, or did a CEL display right away after the install and startup of the car?

No CEL. Just a code when you pull it. A CEL would really bother me but just having a bogus code is liveable. I'm just curious to see if you got it since I get the impression that software quirks are more for the 95's.

Definitely get an MEVI this summer though... the two together is killer!
