BELOW 500 RPM Engine stalls ...........

Hi guys I hope someone can help me to bypass the problem.

I disconnected the speed sensor (speedometer) on my 1999 Maxima.
And after……… While driving I put it into neutral, the idle speed drops below 500 RPM and it stalls. Also it’s interesting that while standing before engaging into 1 gear the engine idle speed is normal and shows healthy 600 RPM. But if driving I decide to put it in neutral the RPM drop really fast and it stalls. Also I noticed that if I hit the throttle just a bit before letting the engine drop below 1000 RPM, then the engine idle speed stays normal (600 RPM).

Do you know how to bypass the problem with the disconnected speed sensor?

Isn't 500rpm a lil low to be idle? I remember when I had my speed was bad and it didn't calculate any miles I didn't have that prob. What if you raise the rpm to idle higher?

Put a switch on the wire so when you would run over 180 KM/h just trigger the switch!

The IACV valve keeps your idle speed slightly increased when the car is moving. Disconnecting the speed sensor is going to cause drivability problems, including the one you are having.

Manually increase your idle speed if you really want to keep the car this way. But - It's going to pull you when your standing still at a light because of the excessive idle speed, plus I bet your tranny starts acting funny as well. You may not get the torque converter to lock either without that sensor working. It needs to know how fast your car is moving in order for it to shift & operate correctly.

My suggestion - Put it back the way it's supposed to be. There are other ways around putting up miles on your clock. You just have to know the right people!

Wait did you disconnect the speedometer entirely? So that it does not register any speed? I hope not. I'm assuming whatever you did was in the interest of being able to go over the 116mph governor.

Anyhow if this is the case, you need to put it on a switch or get used to blipping the throttle manually. I have mine on a switch so that when I need to go over 116 I can, and yes, when the switch is thrown (circuit broken) the car will stall when coming to a stop if you don't blip the throttle.
