ACT Clutch, my impression

I just got the ACT street disc.

My impressions:
Gribs like a b*tch! This thing will grip at any speed, any RPM. There is a lot of wheel hop until it wears in, right now it's VERY rough at takeoff and 2nd gear. I can easily chirp 3rd. Great great clutch!!

Yeah I just got mine installed last week. You know you suppose to take it easy the first 300 city miles right? Just checking. They suggest you do this to properly "break in" the clutch. I have 550 miles on mine now along with my VLSD tranny and I love the heII out of it.

Plurco,

Kinda O.T., but where did you pick up your VLSD, $how much$ & how many miles were on it?

PM me or email if you don't mind.

Thanks!

someone i new with a max had a stage 2 ACT clutch, and didn't take it easy on the break in point and cracked his flywheel. Clutch wore in all rough, had it removed, wasted on $$$$. BUt flywheel might have broke cause of all the hard driving he did trying to enjoy it. Not sure....

The breakin period allows for the clutch disc to wear evenly, even after manufacture there are burrs and high spots on the disc. If you don't take it easy then the heat will harden the high spots and you will have permenant chatter due to an untrue disc face.

Not to mention "There is a lot of wheel hop until it wears in"...

lots of wheelhop isn't good for the car. I think if you're running into this it'd be a good idea to take it easy so that you didn't hop it.

Plus what everyone else said.

My struts are bad too, which isn't helping the wheel hop. When you say take it easy, do you mean that I shouldn't do any speed shifting, or that I should do everything I can to avoid wheel hop i.e. Let the clutch out very slowly.

I got my act clutch installed when I had my conversion done. I love it too... Grabs nicely but like you said it can be rough with wheel hop. I got polyurethane mounts since then. It got rid of my wheel hop but the vibration doubled then before

is speed shifting not taking your foot off the gas when you shift?

i mean that you are supposed to drive like a pu$$y until you get a bunch of miles on it...the minimum is supposed to be 500 city miles.

Yes, speed shifting is shifting with the gas pedal still still fully depressed.

Regarding proper breakin:
Lushka16, dood consult ACT directly for their definition. Do not listen to the guys here, as they may or may not be correct. I would make sure you break in the clutch properly to ensure you ultimately get what you paid for. I seem to recall breaking in my ACT for right around 500 miles, shifting below 3500 rpms, while always taking it easy on the gas especially during shifting...basically drive it like your on your way to a soccer game with a load of kids in the back. But again, don't listen to me, contact ACT for the proper breakin instructions. It DOES make a difference.
