K & N Drop or Poor Man's HAI (what would u do??)

As a college student on a tite budget, I noticed many people on the org talking about the "poor mans intake" and as a newbie, considering doing this myself anyways. Is it better to go with the drop in K & N air filter, or the poor mans intake with the generic cone. Secondly does having the air flow sensor just hanging by the engine bay after installing poor mans HAI affect life of engine or tranmission at all and how safe is it.

hELP MUCH APPRECIATED

Get the K&N filter then save up for a hybrid intake. You can buy the whole thing from franken car or buy part from JWT or from stillen.
