You could give a 2000 Mustang V6 a good run, but there's no way you're going to keep up with the GT. Give it a run and let me know how you fared.

You're not gonna get smoked huge, but you don't stand much of a chance winning even with all the right NA mods. Stock 99+ GTs "can" run high 13s in the right hands. Off the line is where they will really cream you. From a roll it won't be as bad, but again, you won't win.

raced one on the highway

he saw me dust an Eclipse then pulled up beside me. We started at about 80 and he pulled me right away. At 130 he was about 3-4 car lengths ahead, I let off and he kept going. Made me want more mods...

Hey Hype

I'm going to get the Apexi group deal, waiting to hear back from Wicked. Sounds like what I want and I can afford it.

A 4th gen max can take a v6 mustang. A 4th gen max cannot take a v8 mustang.

A 4th gen max may be able to do alright against a 94-98 mustang gt, but in 99 they gave the gt a lot more HP and cut the 0-60 by a seconds or so. I think 0-60 of 94-98 v8 gt's was 6.5 or so and now 99-current it's 5.5 The cobra speed has remained the same 0-60 5.5 from 96 on when they put in the 4.6l engines. The v6 mustangs were always kinda slow. It's a 6 cyl Ford, nothing special, nothing good.

I agree w/ Mac here. A Max WILL take a V6 Stang. I've done it once and will do it again. As for the GTs, the 2k and 2001 Mustangs will beat you. The older models 95-99 GTs are slower. I thin kthe last year they had the 5.0 was in the 94's. My friends 94GT still had the 5.0 The 95-99 had the 4.6L. This was when they found out the motor didnt even have 200hp. Sad thing for FORD.

starting with 1990 mustang gt's...

90-93, old body style, 5L....quick, people love to modify these so they are usually very fast.

94-95, new body, 5L...not fast for a v8. suppose to have a lot of problems

96-98, same body, 4.6L...less problems a little faster

99-current, new body, 4.6L...much faster, more HP. As fast as a cobra

Yeah, but you got "help." I think it's called blue magic or something.

I know Motor Trend isn't God, but..

On their long termers back in '95, they had a 225hp 5L Mustang and a Max. 0-60 for the 'Stang was 6.7, and for the Max, 6.6.
When the 215hp 4.6L SOHC first came out in '96, it was even slower than the 5L OHV. Zero to sixty was 7 flat. In '99 though, Ford got it's act together and now the 290hp 'Stang will run to 60 in 5.5 secs. I thought it was kinda weird that the Honda S2000 is just as quick with about half the torque.
There is also a hopped up version of the current GT for sale, called the 'Bullitt Edition,' commemorating the flick with Steve McQueen. If I had to get a 'Stang, this would be it. The 17 inch stockers are replaced with gunmetal American Racing Torq(they really spell it that way) Thrust wheels in the same size. There's also some engine changes, boosting power up to 290hp. I think it may have a ram-air system of sorts, since there is a larger hood scoop added on as well.
