H-Pipe ?

My roommate came to me the other day and said he'd asked his car buddy about my Maxima, and the guy said that the exhaust mod with real power potential was an H-pipe setup, not a new y-pipe.

Is there such thing as an H-pipe? I'm guessing it is something that'd give me dual exhaust... Does it really offer more than a y-pipe in terms of performance?

Yes there is such a thing as an H-pipe. My father has one installed on his Z-85 GMC truck. There is a big difference between Maxima's and GMC trucks. Mainly the way the engine is placed.

the H pipe is generally for dual exhaust set ups and unless your boosted, dual exhaust will not give you any extra power over a single catback, and some people have lost power.

H-Pipes are mostly found on RWD V-8 cars. When the car is RWD the exhaust exits on both sides of the engines, not front and rear like our maximas. If the exhaust pipes from each side of the engine are kept separate you will have two exhuast tubes running back to the muffler. A H-Pipe is when you connect these two tubes with a cross-tube. This will help balance the pressure in the two tubes and may help in scavenging effect, etc. Unless someone makes a true dual exhaust all the way from the exhaust manifold, a H-Pipe cannot be put on a maxima.
