HELP: knock sensor - different types?

I bought my car used a few weeks ago and the guy that sold it told me that the check engine light came on after he added a mod chip, and nissan dealership wouldn't fix it without putting back the stock chip. he didn't want to do that so he just kept it how it was. now recently i found out that the check engine code is the one for the knock sensor. I want to get a new knock sensor and fix this but is there a possibility that the stock knock sensor (or similar ones) aren't working properly with the mod chip he put in? Or do all the chips and knock sensor interact the same with each other, meaning anyone i get should get rid of the problem?? thanks!

A dead knock sensor alone will not trip the CEL , only if it is coupled with another sensor error code such as a O2 sensor or EVAP something or other, I'd tell you to search.............but..........

"is there a possibility that the stock knock sensor (or similar ones) aren't working properly with the mod chip he put in?"

I would say he probebly have added that stupid resistor mod. to make fuel ratio changed. but i'm not sure where that resistor mod is installed. hopefully someone will know and help you out. if you pull that out. it will fix the problem.
