Hi,

I have a 95 Max GLE. The antenna worked fine until the cold weather hit here in PA. Now it wont go down all the way. I cleaned it up real well and it helped but didn't fix it all the way. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Most power antennas seize in the cold either because a part is frozen, or the assembly is all rusted due to water seapage. Try lubing the antenna mast and pushing down as the antenna retracts.

You need to take a sldge hammer and gentle massage the antenna until it is flush wioth the trunk lid. Be careful not to dent your trunk though.

Seriously, this is a common problem with power antennas in the cold. It should go down in the warmth of a heated garage or a nice Spring day.

yeah

Mine usually doesnt go all the way down, probably cuz i wash my car twice a week and then it gets frozen. Just push it down then come summer it will be a-ok!

Mine started sticking on cold days, it wouldn't go all the way up. So i put some lube on it and it works perfect now. Any temp, it goes up and down, no problems.

Also,

Like what was said earlier, you are going to have that problem with most power antennas. But, try this. When you turn on your car, turn on your radio so the antenna goes up. Then, go to your antenna and spray WD40 on it, be sure to spray in the base of it as well. What this does is WD40 will penetrate through the crevices and actually un-thaw the "frozen and non-lubed" parts of the antenna. Let this settle for about a minute or two and try doing it again. Then, turn your radio off and as the antenna is retracting, ever so slightly apply some downward force to it to "help" it go down. (This job is easier if you have an extra set of hands, such as one of your slaves, I mean friends). Anyways, it worked for me, it will probably work for you as well. Good Luck

I used some kind of greese. I forget what kind it was, but it said "recommended for all moving mechanical parts" I think wd40 is to light. It washes off in the rain. It's good for a prep, before you greese, but you want something that will stay.

WD-40 worked great for me. It cleans the antena, and also lublicates it. As long as its clean you dont need any lublicant.

I have a 93 GXE..what the heck am I doing in this group? LOL, saw it in the "posted since last visit" section and it caught my eye.

If mine would not continue to go 'knock, knock, knock" AFTER it WAS down, I'd be happy. It continues to try long after it's down with a loud noise. Quite embarrassing actually both in the car and ten feet away. If I lay my finger on it, it will stop. And that thing in general is driving me crazy...up, down, up, down. Guess I need to settle on either CD or radio, eh? :-)

Yeah, you need to use a heavier grease on it than WD-40. try using a small amount of motor oil
