steering wheel vibrates, balanced tires already????

i have this weird problem. my steering wheel tends to shake at around 60-75mph. i never had this problem before until i bought my dunlop's for the front. i've had them balanced twice since purchased and i still have the problem.
i thought the tires were defective, but i was told by 3 tire shops that they were fine and within spec.

my question is, do the strut bearings (heard of it before) go bad and cause this type of symptom. there is absolutely no vibration at 75mph+ upto whatever speed.

just looking for any suggestions. when do the strut bearings go bad and are they only in the front? the car is a 97 se with 96k on it.

Go to a different shop to have them balanced.

tires have been balanced 3 times including when they were initially mounted.

2 different shops have performed the balancing on the tires.

I have the same symptoms as you and I was told that my bearings needed replaced.

You can check if its the bearings by jacking up one wheel at time and grabbing the top and bottom of the tire and shaking it to see if there is any freeplay.

I had a smiliar problem and it took 3 tries at Discount tire to balance it properly until the vibration went away. Also - if you have aftermarket wheels and hubcentric rings - make sure that they were put back on when installing the tires.

One easy test would be to switch the Dunlops to the front and see if the vibration still exists. If it still does - it may not be a tire-balance issue.
