The ocassional misfire issue again
The ocassional misfire issue again
My 99 GXE has 150,000 miles. It has an ocassional misfire while sitting at a light. I checks all of the coil packs and they all read about 2,000 ohms. So I can not prove which one is going bad, if that is the case. When these misfires happen the car is idling at about 500 to 600 RPMs. If I put the car in neutral, it stops and idles fine at around 700 to 800 RPMS. The car has about 40,000 since the last tune-up. I even tried cleaning the TB.
What to you guys think, Coil pack, time for a tune-up or something else? How about the battery? Can an old battery have the same effect?
Thanks for your advice.

you might also have to adjust your idle...i think thats done by turning a screw on the idler pulley or something...not sure.
Re: The ocassional misfire issue again
I was going to the in-laws for a Good Friday get together. I brought my tools and suppies to give the car a tune-up. While getting on the highway, at about 60-65mph the car studder and I finaly got an CEL. Fist one. Did the tune up, checked the ECU got an 06-08, Misfire on 1. Cleared the ECU, and went for a test drive. Car feels good until a got to a long red light. The misfire was back. Tune-up was not enough. Checked the ECU again, now it reads 05-05, for no failures detected. Saturday morning went to my rip off friends at Nissan and paid $110 for the coil pack for Cylinder 1. Car feels great, even at lights. If it was not for the misfire, I would not have know which coil was bad.
Thanks for all of your good advice.
